  • Basic replacement is a rhino as the handle interface is much better than the porlex.
I’m not up on the Amazon/alibaba timemore etc models but somebody will be

  • I have a Timemore c2, it’s much better but the price isn’t as competitive as it was.

I recently picked up a KINGrinder p1 for like £22 and was very impressed - much more modern. I think they have a really strong range that are competitively priced so you’ll be able to find something that suits your budget. I bought the cheapest out of curiosity and honestly was very surprised at what it does for the price.

  • Anyone else got a J Manual grinder? I’d be keen to know if the espresso setting range on the 1zpresso site is accurate or not

  • I have a JX-Pro. The guide was in the ballpark definitely, but was not perfect and I haven't referred to it pretty much since I got the grinder 3.5 years ago. Now just dial stuff in kind of from experience and knowing the grinder like the back of my hand.

  • Cool. Day off tomorrow so I’m going to figure out what works while getting more wired than my toddler

  • Made my life hard by introducing a second variable of a new ims basket too. 5 shots ruined either side of pulling too quick or not at all. But it’s pulling way quicker with just the ims basket and coffee ground in the old grinder which was spot on, settings wise. Not too far off being dialled I hope…

  • I think the KIN grinders are really good

  • Got the 1zpresso dialled. Blown away by how noticeable an improvement in flavour and balance of the shot is now. IMS basket could be playing a role in that improvement too. Hard to tell, who cares though, it tastes fantastic.

  • Great to hear! What was the old grinder?

  • The internal one with my Sage Barista Pro. My wife was getting more and more frustrated with dosing the grinder each time but I found that filling the hopper meant changing the settings depending on how long the beans had been in there or how long it had been since the last coffee was made. My wife doesn't give a fuck about inconsistent shots, she just wants coffee as easily as possible. So the hand grinder solves my problem, and doesn't cause her one. Everybody's happy now

  • Any recommendations for cafes/coffee shops near the Tate Modern/South bank? I'll be down that way next week and it's many years since I've been.

  • I’ve never been but always wanted to go to Saint Nine Coffee

  • Origin Coffee on Scoresby Street is ace. Barista there is a whiz with art.

  • Same, giving it a go, first kilo arriving today. I've got high hopes!

  • Rosslyn coffee just across the river is well rated.

  • birds hill roast their own coffee so something a little different - I haven't been but always meant to pop in

  • Cheers all, I'll check those out. Saint Nine is just around the corner from where I'll be which is very handy!

  • I work opposite and go regularly, coffee is pretty good and the guy that runs it is a properly nice guy.

If you fancy a 5 mins walk, Origin coffee underneath the arches on the way to Southwark tube is great.

There's also the Gentleman Barista behind Flat Iron square if either of those aren't open.

  • Ha, missed this - can second!

  • Quick q on James Gourmet, do they have a subscription which sends stuff out weekly/fortnightly? The subscriptions page makes it sound like they only have one shipping date per month.

  • The cafe in the southern entrance to Blackfriars station does Plot Roasting coffee, had the odd brew from there when passing through.

  • The recently refurbished corner cafe at Tate Modern is also very nice with good coffee, in addition to all the above reccs

  • Cheers. I'm a big fan of Plot so that is good news!
