Just finished this off - somewhat parts-bin ish after budget couldn’t stretch to a full groupset but it’s my vibe.

Is there no way to replace the freehub?
-

Haven’t looked into it tbh - wheelset is 15 years old at this point so not sure spares will be out there. I could use one of them 11-34 11 speed cassettes without the spacer but tbh I had a 10 speed bar end around so cheapness won out

Any decent bike shop will get the lock-ring off for you. Or DIY with the B'Twin Chain Whip https://road.cc/content/review/152537-btwin-chain-whip.

Huh, had no idea Btwin made one of these - 100% grabbing one for regular use regardless. The wheelset is in the garage so may take it down my local sometime if I need another set, but for now the shiny silver ones are making me very happy

Here is my Peugeot 753r with hope on light bicycle rims. It’s a proper bike shop build with a mix of shimano groupsets, but I love it. I wish I had gone for a slightly shallower profile rim though…

rad!
Thanks all - plan is to use the silver finishing kit I’ve got around and then to fit the 105 group that turned up in less than 24 hours from Merlin
The bike was thoroughly home mechanic-ed, but all came apart okay. Well except the rear wheel - someone shoved a 10 speed cassette on the 11 speed freehub without a spacer, so the lock ring has chewed into the freehub body. No amount of leverage or plusgas is getting the cassette off so new wheels it is
Currently negotiating for these nice Kinlin/PMP ones
