  • Pine is fine, but I learned recently if you want pine with nice, regular, straight grain like it always used to have, you need to get it quarter sawn. There are also better grades of pine from older, slower-growing trees which are less soft and the grain is closer. I forget which pines are which, but the stuff you get in DIY places and most wood yards is the cheap shit. And it is shit. It’s barely dried, full of knots and it’s plain sawn, so it’s just begging to warp.
