  • Some more free plants. Swapped a Hellebore with a mate for a blue Queen of the Ocean and white Polar Ice Agapanthus.
Also gifted me a Butchers Broom plant which he reckons will grow under my Silver Birch.
Need to up my pot game so off to browse the Whichford Pottery website for inspiration.

  • Nice, the natural garden look :)

  • The "forest corner" which last year was a brick rubble dump. The sticks and wood stump at the back are wood to serve as a "beetle bank" and to give the hedgehog/ birds some privacy.

The Astilbe and Hosta still have to emerge, the bluebells are also not out yet. It's not been very warm this spring where we are.

  • Ordered some Astilbe. I think they’ll go nicely.

  • I’m a moss lover

Same. I took these at the weekend in a local orchard on one of the early apples.

  • I'm trying to work out a long list of possible plants for my planned bog garden. I've chucked them all in a Google Sheet with some fields, it's WIP and biased to my requirements (shade, native and wildlife), so it won't ever be fully filled out.

But in case it's useful for others I thought I'd share: https://microcosm.app/out/ki9Ui

It is the Eden's list plus puddle plants which I either like or are native and/or good for wildlife.

One unintended usuful feature is if you hover over the hyperlink cell it will show you a preview of the plant.

  • Looks lovely, what is the dark black frilly Hellebore variety?

  • Thanks - not sure I’ll ask my wife as she was given them by a neighbour and planted them

  • Front pond is getting a flower on the lily pads👌

  • Lovely.

That'll be a treat to yakk into

  • Nice! Is that perspective or do you own a bit of acreage?

Yeah, just under an acre - although a mix of a bit of woodland, a veg patch and some lawn/beds - it’s on a hill side so some is terraced and some is just sloped , so it’s pretty hard work but great when it’s in bloom

  • Love seeing these before/afters. I’ve got a before photo of the back garden and now I’m just hoping some plants will actually do something to warrant an after photo

  • This fuschia has come back massive this year. Are we too late to prune it this year? Or can they be trained or something to spread a bit less.

Also, any idea what this is? Image search is suggesting a raspberry plant but pretty sure we've not planted one of those.

  • Yep looks like some sort of bramble. If your neighbour has any it could just grow underground and pop up.

  • I don't really think fuschias gaf. You're probably not going to get much new growth if it already looks like that and you cut it back. But I'm sure it'll be fine.

I'm kicking myself for planting two of my fushas too deep. I've made it worse by building up the ground over the too.

The only consultation is that another at the back that's starting to sprout has only just done so. And the two out the front aren't doing anything.
