It'll be wider for a mtb derailleur?
I have got a pretty short bb in the bike so this really might be a problem.
Also the Advent derailleur and other mtb derailleurs I'm finding are looking like they're all 34.9mm clamp and I have a puny 28.6mm seattube.
Might try and pick up a cheapo used mtb derailleur but 1x is looking like an easier option tbh.

It could be shimmed. I think most retrogrouch frames are still 68mm BB, so maybe chain line is ok, not sure how much difference the rear spacing makes tbh

Shorter bottom bracket? Or perhaps a bottom bracket spacer on the non drive side?

Can’t go any shorter, inner ring is almost hitting the chainstay as is. Not sure what that’d do anyway?

A Shimano CX70 or an IRD Sub-C may work better with smaller outer chainrings.

problem solvers makes an adapter for 68 shells/small offset and 28.6 tubes and direct mount FDs.

works with derailleurs like this:

After riding it today and working out what the lowest gear would be if I swap the 30/46t combo for a 36t or 38t single ring. I think I’m going to do that. It just makes more sense to me to go 1x on it.

Gorilla Monsoon? How does it ride?
I’m considering a GM or alternatively a Crust Evasion for my next bike.

I did think it was a bit of a departure from your usual style

Is the derailleur set low as possible to the rings? Is it parallel to the rings?
Is the chain a piece of crap?
What kind of chainrings?

Yes, yes, no - it’s a brand new Deore 10 speed chain.
It’s a Stronglight Escape chainset and the rings are just the stock ones I think. Not to worn. They’ll likely be for b what, 8 speed chain? So could be the combination of those with the 10 speed chain.
Have ordered a ring to go 1x anyway.

My guess is that it's compatibility between ring and chain. Admittedly an unusual cause. Don't forget to get single speed bolts.

On the subject of functionality, fenders/mudguards, I'd like to find an equivalent to SKS' Longboard units that seem out of production as of last year.
They were the only fenders with a(n almost) long enough front mudguard that also had a little flap to keep the toes dry when riding on wet roads.
Anyone that knows of similar products, or might have recommendations?

I've got Bleumels on one bike and VO on another. Both are long enough to work well with an additional flap.
Yeah it is, so I guess chain line could be a problem but I know The Woods use them as a bit of a problem solver
