  • Increasingly pushy chuggers. I was waiting to pick up my wife at the station yesterday and made sure to put on my sunglasses and headphones because I saw a bunch of them milling around, and propped myself in what I thought was an out of sight corner. Nope, one comes over and starts giving me his spiel, to which I politely say I'm not interested thanks. He says something else which I can't hear properly, and then makes a gesture for me to take off my headphones. I do, feeling pretty exasperated, and say 'what's up?' Then he keeps asking if I'm OK and acting concerned for my wellbeing, which I can only assume was some kind of attempt at engagement, before telling me he won't leave unless I give him a smile. I pull back my lips in a demented Terminator-style thing and he eventually fucks off. I don't think I could have made myself less approachable without wearing a literal mask and this guy still decided to stomp all over the social contract.

I’m just concerned for your wellbeing mate! Do exactly what I tell you to do for no reason other than my capricious folly and I’ll maybe let you get on with your life.

I would’ve given them the benefit of the doubt until that happened.

    Sorry, a what now?

  • There’s quite a few rules in place for them and you can report if you want. I always struggle to actually find the info but think this might be the place.

Point 8.1.4. Might be of interest in this situation.

You must not suggest to any member of the public that the conversation you are attempting to start is not about money or that you are ‘not fundraising’.

Lately I've been wondering why the fuck charities don't just employ a full-time lobbyist or two instead of armies of these jokers. Instead of being yet another thing bleeding the poor dry (they're generally more generous), they could be tackling problems at the source, directly competing against the filth creating so many of the problems with their own lobbyists.

Or better yet, going with the highest ROI there is, and just buying the politicians like anyone else who's actually serious about changing the world to their liking.
