Was going to make a foldable breakaway case, but have actually bought one of these folding bike bags (sorry for amazon link…) to take my outback breakaway to Spain next week. Test packing it now, and it easily fits my XL frame and 700x43 tires fully inflated, so a touch roomier than the standard breakaway case, but pretty close dimensions wise.
I’ll stick some cardboard down the sides at either end to protect for the flight.
It’s a little extra to carry obviously, but it rolls down pretty small and straps easily onto the outside of my saddlebag. I’ll need to get on a train in Spain that doesn’t accept non folded bikes, so I’ll be able to break the bike down for that trip too. Might be useful for any other breakaway owners doing A-B tours abroad, saves sourcing a cardboard bike box abroad
