Yep Beato's git is a Country Western from the mid to late 50s. (Same thing as a Southern Jumbo/SJN iirc - the name moved around quite a lot.)
Love the way the spruce darkens but the mahogany almost lightens on those natural top Gibsons, they sometimes end up pretty much the same shade. Lovely colour!
Here's my 58 Texan for comparison

Actually tho not a priority as I want to get my Green Matamp Series 3000 first.

Very nice indeed - thanks for confirming! : )

Just picked myself up a nicely used Boss BD-2. It’s to go in front of my Boss Dual Cube LX which is frankly a bit crap. It does make it sound much better but the amp will have to go.

It's Beato's and it's a 1957 Country & Western.

I used to look after a mid-60s Texan, it belonged to my bandmate's dad, he had two at one point. He took one with him when he left the UK for Germany and left the other one in London with his son. I think this might be a picture of it?
It lived at my place for years, for so long that I kinda took it for granted but it sounded absolutely beautiful. It was roadworn AF, gaffer holding an input for an old skool piezo pickup. I could never get it to sound very good into my old portastudio.
How long have you had that? Did that replace the Collings? Forgive me if you've had it forever, my brain isn't what it once was. 😵💫 #csb

Amazing pic!! Is he playing thumb over the top, like Richie Havens?
I've had mine for 10 years I think - you're right, it replaced a Collings OM which I always sort of admired rather than really loved. The Epiphone came from a good mate who loves old Gibsons but is doomed never to hang on to them. Before then it belonged to the guy who now owns No Tom in Denmark St. He accidentally sold it in a fit of divorce. I told him I had it and he found a photo on his phone of him with it on stage and declared it "the best Texan of all time" which was extremely #csb.
It's got some stories... at one point someone tried to add more tuners, banjo-style ones by the look of it, plus a tailpiece. It's got some patches on the top - maybe from the nail holes left by a DeArmond volume control unit. It's a weird one because the body is a regular 1958 J-50 but the neck is a V-profile one made earlier in NY or Philly by Epiphone before Gibson bought them out, with a wide headstock and the old logo. You remember, they used up all kinds of leftover bodies, necks and hardware, like putting those New York pickups in Coronets and so forth. It's long scale, 25.5" like a D18 not the usual Gibson 24.75", with an extra fret. They ended up keeping the longer scale when they ran out of old necks. It's probably only a gnat's more tension but it does seem to add a bit more spank.
The action had been getting a bit sad and baggy so last month I took it in (Feline in Croydon, good job) and they gave it a super light fret dress and lowered the saddle a bit and it's totally sprung back into life. I've got it on 11's and it's sounding amazing. I've been playing it for hours every day trying to get my thumbpick chops back.

So, so purty, very different to the 60s versions. The one I knew was very narrow at the nut IIRC, almost like a 70s strat!
Yes, Kevin played in open E like a lot of his blues heroes so he did a lot of cool things with his fretting hand.

Someone please tell me this is shit and I shouldn't buy it.
MarketPlace is evil, I need to give up.

My favourite musician of all time played alternately tuned Dobros with a slide.
The world needs more resonator guitars. Trufax.

Who was that?
For some reason I had it in my head that Bukka White played a Tricone, first time I saw one on an old D.A. Pennebaker movie I wanted one. Completely impractical, probably won't get played. It's 250kms away, Lori likes it and thinks we should go for a drive and grab it.
She's a terrible influence. Great video, saw this at a very tender age and it was super influential. Reminds me of the time I went to Junior's Juke Joint back in the 90s.

I don't even know where to start with how much I miss his music. Saw him live twice, once back in H-town and on his last gig in London. I still have the poster from that show at the Borderline hanging up in my office. (Didn't we see Kvelertak at the Borderline with Aram?)
There was a posthumous album released with Jeff Lang (Oz slide guitarist) in 2006: Dislocation Blues. Some really great tracks on that.

I've heard of him but never listened, will check him out. Yes, we did see Kvelertak there with Aram, Richie, Russ, Mrak, etc. Great show, awful sound! 🤣

hard agree, they're so great. I used to use one to double track electric rhythm parts for extra spank

Wouldn’t want to drop a plectrum inside that

Compulsory new guitar post, got this little L-00 style acoustic earlier in the week. Very much still in the honeymoon period, but I think it's awesome. Between this and an OM I truly believe I'm pretty much set. Now I just need to shift the other two acoustics...
I'm including a tiny sound demo — tried to keep it really simple on purpose, but still didn't quite manage to nail it 🙃

^^ That sounds lovely.
Another new guitar day (almost...). It'll be a while before I get it set up and with strings on, but I finally got all the bits of my Mockingbird together in one piece...
I started this in lockdown, and it was meant to be a relatively easy build and done in a few months, but other things kept getting in the way. Rich in Wales did an incredible job on the paint, it's come out exactly as I had in my head.

Love it!
I'm looking for a case for my Super Champ, is there such a thing as a Pelican type moulded plastic case (but not a Pelican $£€¥!!) that I could get a small fender amp into? I don't want a traditional flight case, too heavy, expensive, etc.

Finally bought an attenuator on MarketPlace, looking forward to putting my Solton head through it. At 65w and no master volume my ears can't handle it at full volume anymore.

Nice, the Bugera is a great option by all accounts. -

Any interest in a Two Notes Torpedo Cab M* before I take it to the bay.
All factory reset, with its power supply, and mint.
105GBP posted - that's a chunk cheaper than reverb etc.
*Not a cab M+ - however, if you register it with Two Notes you can do a firmware upgrade that makes it one it seems: https://support.two-notes.com/knowledgebase.php?article=362
Yep - seems like searching various years of Southern Jumbo gives a much better scratchplate match along with the inlays.
Also ramps the price up considerably : )
I think it's something Beato had in the studio rather than something CC has brought as he normally plays Taylors I think.
