Made that Ottolenghi ragu, then made that into a lasagne with homemade pasta sheets and a layer of courgettes and 2 of Aubergine along with basil a cheesy bechamel. It was quite tasty.

Where's good for fancy vegan chocolate? Looking for something as a gift so probably not something you can get from a supermarket if possible. Milk style, she doesn't like dark chocolate!

Hotel Chocolat has some nice stuff, but I just like the dark stuff, so don't know if they have milk style options.

Of the ones you find in most supermarkets, Cathedral City is the nearest to a mature cheddar. The new Philadelphia one is quite good too.

There are two kinds--the cheese analogues that really aren't cheese, and nut cheeses, which can lay a claim to being cheese, as they are cultured and made in a similar way to dairy cheese, only not with dairy.
The analogues are generally made from coconut oil and potato starch (or some other starch). Back when vegan 'cheeses' first 'melted', it was marketed as a major innovation (first by Redwood Foods, now vBites, I think). All it was was that coconut oil is solid at room temperature and melts when heated. Many of them melt so there's very little trace of them left and they really don't seem like dairy cheese (not something that bothers me, of course, but as illusions go this one is still not very good).
A few analogues are still made from soya as a main ingredient. I find all that stuff interesting enough to try it once, but the future of vegan cheese is nut cheese, especially cashew cheese, which is not only delicious but also properly cheese. It's still very pricey because it's not being produced on a large scale; you'll pay at least £5 for a small block, and there are no hard cheeses available--I've been told that's because they would need to be stored for years to achieve that, and the small producers that I don't think have been joined by any large ones yet don't have the storage space.
I tend to get I Am Nut! OK? and Kinda Co. from time to time, as they're the ones available around here (disclaimer: I know them, but I'm not being paid in cheese to advertise them), but I'm sure there are other good brands.

I like Palace Culture but you can only get it in Waitrose now and they only have 3 cheeses available whereas they used to do lots of others including a red wine soaked one and a blue. Also used to be able to get it from them direct near my house and there isn't a bloody Waitrose around here. Anyway, good cheese if you have a Waitrose nearby.

Thanks everyone for the science behind the produce . I guess the same can be said for milk as well but i don't drink that as it gives me eczema.
FYI anyone else looking for eats round the barbican, Korean BBQ has a vegan page in their menu and is very very close
