  • any of the airbrushers in here interested in my spare harder & steenbeck infinity cr plus v2 (0.2mm nozzle) ?

brand new still in shrink wrap. originally purchased so i could run a 0.2 and 0.4 needles at the same time on my dual compressor for basecoating and detail painting but I'm out of work atm and need some cash.

    edit:gone now sorry.

  • They look great, loads of personality.

  • Loving that purple cloak in the first pic! I'm stealing that idea :)

  • Finished off this squad. First time using an airbrush for the armour (result is ok but could have been done better) and first time trying weathering/damage (very easy and looks pretty good, shame the photo doesn't really show any of it!). Airbrush made this a much quicker process to get the models done, but you can see the difference next to the ones I've taken more time over, these have less shading and less contrast between light and dark areas.
To get models on the table without spending weeks painting power armour is quite nice though.

Tried out some different approaches to the skin, mixing up different base colours to try to get a range of skin tones and diversify 40k one marine at a time. Captain (dark browny plum base colour) looks ok, sunburned-looking dude off his shoulder actually looks ok too (reddish-plum coloured base), blurry marine at the back is middle-of-the-road white guy paint job and chap on the left is by far the worst.

  • Next project has some better airbrishing effects on the panels, there's a lot of metallic parts which I'm not really too sure on, might go for another approach and go for shades of grey (not doing NMM) but it'll take me AGES to do all that rather than slap leadbelcher and a wash over it all.
Brown areas will be yellow to match weapon casings across the rest of the army. I realised I have airbrushed the left shoulder pad blue/grey and it probably should be yellow too to fit in with the rest of the army :(

  • excellent work here, the invictor is my favourite kit of any i've done so far! you're painting it up a treat!

  • Nice. I just treated myself to a new airbrush, the H&S Ultra 2024. Lots of stuff to paint but little time right now

  • Started a new kill team, quite happy with the outcome so far, trying to minimise the use of washes and focus on glaze and highlighting.

    also first time using decals!

Funny how long it can take to paint minis, like I’ve bashed out squads to a table top level in an evening or two, but for every granular increase in detail the time spent is exponential

It’s fun to pick what bits you care about detailing depending on the project, I’m at peace about not having the motor skills to do super clean painting and smooth layers, and am enjoying developing a style that I’d describe as

“3 feet impressionism” (aka better when you squint a little)

Think these are on day.. 4? These rest are basecoated and I just highlight them up individually

  • Yes! Love an Orc/Ork.

  • I was really pleased with painting the same squad marking on the warsuit and the pilot's shoulder pad (design mainly to cover where some paint was pulled off by masking tape) only to realise you can see precisely fuck all of it when the pilot marine is inside.

  • I've got maybe 1% left to completly finish the warsuit and zero motivation to finish. I only ever get this with bigger models, happy to complete a squad to the last detail but the last few lights, pipes etc I'm just meh.

Now I've typed that I've looked again and it's a single light and the base and spray with matt varnish... I'll have a word with myself :)

  • That’s some good painting right there

  • My daughter loves making and painting stuff, I was wondering if she'd enjoy miniature painting and thought I might look into it.

However, I can't imagine she's going to be into war gaming minis, does anyone know any other brands that might be good for cutesy fantasy or similar minis? Anything not bristling with swords and guns might be suitable!

  • Only Games have got loads of 3d printed minis in lots of styles. Mostly to fit with wargames but you can find some less grimdark styles, e.g:

    https://only-games.co/products/glowhopper-b-mushroom-bayou

    https://only-games.co/products/dog-1

You might have to dig through a lot but once you find the creator you can filter to just that creator to see other minis in similar styles.

  • For building minis, games workshop is pretty much unbeatable as they have the scale and equipment to make them in plastic meaning you can use cement rather than superglue and the pieces go together nicely. There's lots of small brands making minis for D&D and the like but there's also a game called Moonstone that has some much more fantasy style ones that may fit the bill and they come little squads.

  • Does she fantasy at all? GW still has the LOTR game right?

  • Does she fantasy at all?

No, but she's really into making dioramas so thought they might be worth throwing in front of her to paint. I'm quite tempted to pick up the Heroquest reissue (it's £50 on amazon right now, which seems reasomable) to see if it's as much of a gateway drug as the original was for me!

Thanks for those links all, much appreciated - there's definitely some stuff in there that would appeal.

  • I played in Manchester GT at the weekend. Ended up winning 3 games losing 2, had some really close and fun matches and could probably have won each of the loses if I played better. This is the army I took, basically a wall of vehicles to push towards my opponent.

  • congrats! that's a good result, and a cool looking army too.

  • Try etsy, I search for "cute miniatures" and found these tressyms

  • Printing openly available models feels like a good excuse to buy a resin printer…

  • resin printing is grim and messy and dangerous and can't really be done inside your house. do lots of research before you decide to do it.

mines gone untouched for about 18mo as I didn't feel comfortable using it in my hobby room after a couple uses (that's with proper ventilation) at our last place so I'm waiting until my workshop is done and has power so i can run it safely here at our new place.

the machine itself is fine, but the gallons of iso alcohol needed for washing that then needs to be filtered for reuse so you dont spend 100s on buying new alcohol and the clean space for prepping and curing and safety gear to avoid skin contact and risks of building up resin allergy when exposed to the fumes over time that never goes away again. disposal of waste liquids.

it's a great tool and makes amazing stuff but it is way more hassle than most people will admit to themselves (and you) if you go on the resin printing communities.
