  • Doubt it. Giro have made something within the rules after a year or Visma R&D, it gives better field of vision than arguably a lot of other helmets on the market... they just have to be seen to be banning stuff from time to time.

  • It's not arrived yet. Will let you know.

Also found a drag2zero 58tooth ring on ebay last night. I best get training if i want to push that gear!

  • I’m looking at buying a cheap Vitus Auro frame that has no seat post.

Does anyone have any information. On seat posts that will fit? Wiggle obviously not an option

  • Which model exactly? There's a Vitus Auro 2019-20 seatpost on ebay right now but I think these use the same moulds as the pdq v1 tt and track frameset. None in stock on the pdq website but Ian cammish may have or be able to direct you to one

  • It’s the latest disc version.

It appears the only difference is the di2 accoutrements though and I’m using AXS so any should* do.

    Will reach out though.

  • Loads of brands use this frame I'm so must be available. Both rim and disc frames look the same shape but looking on CRC the seatpost clamp wedge kits look quite different. My rim brake version looks like the first one. I expect people will be flipping some of the Vitus parts they were clearing out at 90% off now almost everything has sold out shame all the seatposts have gone. Are you looking to buy a frame from Trisports resort? I've messaged this seller and he bought this from them and says it is from a Vitus Auro and probably a newer one as the older ones like mine are tear drop shape front and back

  • On closer inspection the rim and disc brake versions are more different than they look. Mine has an integrated clamp at the front of post/rear of tt on those your looking at the clamp slots into the top tube via the Seat tube and you access the bolt from underneath. Looking at those frames it's hard to see if they have the seatpost hardware so you may need to source a clamp/aswell. They are mad cheap though if you can get all the bits you need. There doesn't appear to be a clamp in this one

  • Worst thing that happens is I get into a fit and just bond the seatpost in.

    Will get parts… surely… hopefully.

  • @Retro_Bastard

Surely the clamp is always attached as per here.

  • Yeah I've actually go a spare one of those but I'm talking about the clamp to secure the post into the frame like in the pics upthread. You'll need the bottom one. It's missing from the pic on ebay

  • I don't suppose there'd be any interest here in my Speed Concept frame? Size L and including a number of different stems and risers, saddle, shifters...£900?

  • Seen these Minimoi extensions? Thoughts?

If I was to race again, the front end of the Shiv is the only low hanging fruit I can really see.

Is anyone still doing aero testing these days? I still want to try the high hands position and now that I need to adjust my position higher to clear my beer gut I figure if I was going back into it seriously I'd want to test some different arm positions.

Looks like Aerocoach are still going: https://www.aero-coach.co.uk/services

    Wind tunnel sessions (Silverstone)
£1,195 per rider/2hrs tunnel time (solo)

    Velodrome sessions (Newport or Derby)
    £795 per rider/2hrs (solo)
£595 per rider/2hrs (paired - sharing track time)

    Outdoor Solo sessions (Halesowen)
    £385 per rider/2hrs (solo)
£285 per rider/2hrs (paired - shared with another rider)

  • It seems like there are a few on-bike aero testing solutions either recently released or soon to be released. Might be easier than throwing money at a wind tunnel.

I personally have found the inwards angled extensions like the Vuka EVO or Profile ASC more comfortable than the straight ones, but that's probably more a case of me not being able to tuck my elbows in narrow enough.

  • I don't have the time nor inclination to deal with on-bike stuff. I want someone who knows what works and can suggest stuff to test quickly and get it done with minimal external variables. If I bought one of the on-bike units I'd just be fucking around with it and get nowhere.

I have the original Shiv extensions plugged into the original TriRig base bar. They're setup quite close and long which is probably going to cause me problems having been off the bike for 2.5 years but we'll see. The extensions don't follow my arm like these new-fnagled ones so there's some gap filling that could be done. Plus, I still want to see if a higher body position with my arms pulled closer to my body (ie. not as stretched out) and my hands closer to my chin is any better than my hippysuperman position.

I have Vuka Evo on the Mason but I want fast not comfortable. I've ridden 24hrs with the S-bends and mechanical so with Di2 I can deal with most setups.

  • I want someone who knows what works and can suggest stuff to test quickly and get it done with minimal external variables.

Do wind tunnel sessions do that though? Dowsett's recent video series seemed to suggest that they simply follow the test protocol you want run, operate the machine, and provide you with the results.

It was implied that it's up to you to decide if you want to go higher in the stack, lower, longer, shorter etc... they just provide you with the numbers/graphs and tell you it's quicker or slower. And moreover, it's up to you (or your mechanic) to make those changes to the bike... eating into testing time.

Xav from Aerocoach discussed this on a podcast recently and said exactly the same thing. He can't make suggestions on position or geometry, because he'd be using information gathered and paid for by other riders in his wind tunnel... it wouldn't be fair.

  • I always have things I want to test though which helps. When I've done testing before it's a bit of a combo of things I want to do and maybe some stuff the testers suggest. In the tunnel I basically said "don't touch the back-end, I can ride 24hr in this position, just do arm stuff" and so they came up with a bunch of stuff to do to the front-end. It was obvious stuff though - go wider, go narrower, go lower, go higher. No big positions changes. The more optimised you are the trickier the changes. When I rode the track with Xav it was a bunch of stuff I had to test and it was kind of annoying because it validated all my choices anyway and we didn't find any free speed! #icanseeairflow

Regarding test time, you have to be slick - so remove Di2 cables and shit to be able to quickly swap positions. Maybe borrow bars or something. Normally for me it has been easier stuff - testing bento boxes, helmets, calf guards etc and not big bar/position changes.

  • don't touch the back-end, I can ride 24hr in this position

    That's what she said

  • No love for

    just do arm stuff

  • This looks like the end of the Farnham - Alton TT course.

Any move further west would involve climbing Four Marks. Although that part of the road has been used in the past, it's quite a hard climb and would make the course 'sporting'.

The Hounslow 100 is safe for this year because the plan is only at the consultation stage, but the future looks doubtful for the many events that have been using this course.

  • Map failed to upload on first try with post 20620, but here it is ( I hope!).

  • That's a shame! I have many memories of that course, including some good ones.

  • Agree. I've done many miles down there. A few 100s, a couple of 12hrs, some shorter races and I was even using it to train for the 24hr Worlds one year. That's a lot of loops!

  • Dowsett's recent video series seemed to suggest that they simply follow the test protocol you want run, operate the machine, and provide you with the results.

I was the rider in the video you might be referring to and I think Alex showed my test plan briefly on-screen.

Whoever you go into the tunnel with will 'direct' your session and should ideally have all of that agreed with you prior to session itself. Xav is right that they shouldn't tell you what others have tested or what was faster...but even if they did it wouldn't make any sense. What tests well on one rider won't test well on another.

Alex coaches me so knows my position well and had seen it in the flesh a number of times therefore he was in a good position to make the suggestions, but even if he didn't there's only a limited number of things you can change in terms of body position so really all he is doing is assessing the lowest hanging fruit based on my body type, flexibility, race speed etc what order to test in/what to prioritise. And the results showed some things you'd expect to work on me just didn't e.g. narrow elbows made no difference.

So in short, the provider you use should help you make that test plan, without divulging anything about other riders.

  • If it's the front end position then I'd consider:

    • Stack: go up and down 20mm increments if you can make the change quickly
    • Angle: assume non-UCI so start say 15deg and angle up from there (but be aware you need to be able to see forwards
    • Elbow position: narrow vs wide, pad reach potentially

I have some of the newer Tririg bars that are about to be sold but if you want to borrow for the tunnel you are welcome to as you can do the above super quickly, otherwise I'd bring a mate with good mechanical skills that's practiced with you doing the changes. I had the Shiv Disc extensions so I spent a good amount of prep time just practicing swapping out spacers so on the day it was as quick as it could be (we had 3 of us as a well drilled machine in the end doing it).
