Some people find mounting a light lower down to give a better contrast to potholes and other obstacles in the road. If by visibility you mean other road users seeing you, then you are best having a light on your helmet. Some evidence has shown that moving lights are much more effective than bright lights to get people to notice you.
is it a bad idea to mount a front light on the side of the fork? Is the crown or even the bar a better place for visibility's sake?
