  • Turns out that randomly messing about with the Gaggia's OPV last year resulted in a perfect 9bar.

    Now I've got the gauge and can measure changes, I'm gonna take it down to 7ish bar as 6 seems the internet afficionados choice and I don't want to seem quite as snobby as them. Any input from others who've done this?

    Yes, I found the temperature suffers a bit when you turn the pressure down too much. I think it’s because of the way the OPV bypasses the water back into the tank. You might also find the machine burps quite a lot when you’ve got the steam on because it also uses the OPV as its maximum pressure hold.

  • I use 7 bar on the commercial machine in the shop, we arrived at it by tasting espresso at 9, then 8 and so on.
