As long as I can edit a million tracks in Logic Pro, I'll be happy. For the first time in my life I'm paying for Adobe CC, and I'm only using it for my invoices*. 💸
* and occasionally making logos for my mates.

Depends on it’s workload, you can never have too much ram and 18gb is not exactly generous.

I think it's probably gonna be a bit overpowered for my use case, but that's fine. Better too much power than etc.

After being fucked around by big box electrical store and having to do a price match through Apple the dirty deed is finally done.
It's a bit of a chonky boy, eh?
It'll be a nice change to have a smaller machine, I've always had 15" MBPs. I'll be using it in clamshell mode 95% of the time anyway and it'll be easier to slip into my Mission Workshop manbag.

I've never been less excited about a new laptop purchase.
Please keep us updated on how you DGAF with more posts about it throughout the next days 👍

Anyway, as I was saying. Anyone else feel that way? I used to fetishise tech and was a total Apple fanboy in the 90s and 00s, I don't really care now, it's just a tool. That's way more healthy, obvs.
I felt the same way about buying a new phone a few months back. It's identical to the last one just faster, it runs all the same applications, the data got moved across, same wallpaper, etc, same phone essentially. Upgrading doesn't feel like an event anymore.

access isnt it, internet and 'unboxing' has taken the mystery out of it all, i saw the vision pro IRL the other day in a shop and didnt even feel like playing with it

The jumps in performance upgrading phones and laptops during the 2000-2010s were bigger than they are now. Smartphones were still “new” and exciting and the manufacturers were making bigger leaps with software all the time too.
I remember getting hyped about OS X launches and new versions of android etc. There was a bit of that when they switched to M processors from Intel but I’m still on an i7 MBP and iMac at work 😂

It could just be this, of course. 🥸
Moved everything onto the new machine, feeling a bit sad about restoring the old one to factory settings. Totally idiotic, but real feels.

Wow you have the same enthusiasm for new tech as the wife.
Just in case it is you darling, I did try flushing twice.

Pretty much, I just want them to not slow my working down or cause me problems. Was over the moon to gain half a day back over a weeks worth of retouching just by opening/save times when going from spinning disk to ssd.
The heft increase from 15 to 16 inch MBP was a bit of a shock though, can’t swap to a 15 air but that may happen in the future if they gain a port or 2. -

Even if you aren't excited, don't drop it just yet. That looks dangerous.

Haha, you're totally right. It told me the migration would take over 9hrs so they both got moved to where the dog wouldn't knock them off the table.

I'm happy I went 14" then cuz that feels heavier than my Intel 15"!

So I wiped my old MBP thinking it would be very straightforward to put High Sierra on there and start fresh. Wow, how wrong was I?!?
HS is no longer supported in Recovery Mode, I'm unable to download from Apple via recovery or from their website. Unable to make a bootable disk as the version I grabbed from Piratebay isn't recognised as legit by the system. I can't even use Time Machine as those backups were restored to the new machine so it won't recognise them. I wasted my entire Sunday trying to get a system on there.
My only remaining option is to pick up a bootable USB stick off eBay. Fucking crazy state of affairs.
New MBP is nice, I like it.

Whereabouts are you? If local to me in SE19 you can borrow the stick I bought for exactly the same issue, it has various OS on it

I’m not sure if this will help, but I’ve always used this page for getting older OS versions.

That's a lovely offer, thank you, but I'm almost 17,000kms away! Think I'll have to bite the bullet and buy myself one.
Where did you get yours?

I spent a lot of yesterday on that page but thanks!
