  • Why hasn't Brompton made a disc model yet?

It's clearly not difficult as its being done by a chap in a garage (Kinetics), so why not?

  • Cos they are so stucked in their own ways...

Same reason why their parts are so flimsy and full of plastic.

  • A cynic would say it's being held back so they can rinse the high rollers who bought each of the other premium versions (SL, P, T, T12, etc) over the years one more time.

(Though they'd probably tell you they don't think it's the right solution for the way their bikes are ridden, which is probably not wrong exactly)

  • The creaking and cracking is so horrible also

  • Yeah, but bear in mind it's just the plastic guards and none of the fittings/stays

  • Legit one of the best Bromptons ever

  • I still want to visit the buying team… some of the part costs are just ridiculous. I always go back to handlebars. They are triple what they should be.

Bikes should be under £1000 rrp for sure.

  • About the discs for Bromptons. I only ride it around london, sometimes the cotswolds. Ive thought of a lot of potential fixes on them in that time (probs knocking on for 30k miles), ive never thought it felt underbraked. size of wheel against pretty strong current breaks it would jus be weight added for no usefull gain

  • Just seen @amey has discs. How do they feel vs rim brakes?

  • Funny, I think it's underbraked for my mostly flat, London city riding. I carry some extra weight and a false-sense of speed too.

  • @infmz Fair enough. Though, my other bike is a BSD Safari with no brakes so any brake is better.

  • Brompton brakes are better than these at least

  • they are great and they keep the bike clean

  • yeah me too, sometimes feels a little underbraked riding around London, esp. when carrying some luggage weight etc. have a modded fork from @M_V waiting to be fitted, looking forward to seeing how much difference mini-Vs or Vs will make...

  • Hi Guys
Looking to upgrades some parts to my brompton just need your expertise and opinions ?
List follows :Tyres ,handlebars grips ,pulley wheels ,crank and chaining and wheelset .
Please and tanks in advance .

  • Tyres - Continental Urban Contact
    Grips - Ergon GP1
    Pulley wheels - Pass
Crank - could be a headache
Chainring - less headache but not always worth it
Wheels - Brompton superlight front wheel and keep your normal rear.

There are many modded Bromptons but I think the returns are pretty small unless you're going for a really light build, disc brakes etc. I've steered clear of most upgrades, all mine are for comfort, taste, practicality or were done when parts were worn out.

  • Looks good. Is it the Kinetics disc conversion?

  • nice, cheers. I'm about to enter the world of Brompton ownership so am obviously already thinking about upgrades...

  • Are you looking to save weight? Or reuse bits from other bikes?

I swapped my cranks out for some sugino 75’s I had., because I had them spare, they look good, but they did not save me any weight, might have added a bit..

Wheelset I’m a fan of Dynamo hubs and would advise everyone to get one, again adds some weight but I find it’s indispensable.
I like the son Brompton specific Dynamo hub, it looks gorgeous but is super pricey..
    I’ve got a s/hand sp i think.

  • Thank you and the purpose is to reuse bits from other bikes.

  • I like the discs on my Kinetics 20" conversion.
