That Starmer fella...

  • Feels like pretty normal fundraising behaviour to me.

  • It’s in bad taste

  • What bollocks. Parties use the fuck-ups of other parties for fundraising. We're about to go into a general election, where the Tories will have a lot more money, mainly from pretty dubious sources who want (and usually get) favours, will be standing on a bigoted and divisive platform, and they're holding onto a £10 mill donation from a brazen racist.

If you're not going to shake the can in that situation, when are you going to?

  • Succinctly put

  • That seems a bit weird. Should they only be bothered by racism towards labour members / MPs? I thought it was a more universal concern than that

The Forde report showed that senior Labour staff members have been complicit in the bullying of Dianne Abbott including using racist tropes to describe her so it's a bit galling for them to use her experiences as a basis to fundraise.

  • Yes, I agree with that criticism. (Not sure the others stack up though)

  • senior Labour staff members have been complicit in the bullying of Dianne Abbott including using racist tropes to describe her so it's a bit galling for them to use her experiences as a basis to fundraise

Would be a fair point if any of those members still worked for the party but Corbyn had successfully ejected them by 2019.

Party has promised that every pound spent will be backed by £3 of private investment

Interesting from Owen Jones. I have to say I'm one of those thinking that Labour is doing a Clark Kent, and will unveil its hidden progressive Superman upon assuming office but I'm hearing more and more people that sound like Jones, and Tories on TV saying their best chance of winning seats is to point out how similar both main parties actually are.

  • I've a friend over here that has interviewed Keir Starmer quite extensively and he thinks the same. I hope so, but I don't see it. KS appears thin-skinned and has treated even the moderate left of the party as electoral kryptonite. The idea that he is going to volte face, once he's prime minister and subject to the full, withering scrutiny of the Mandelson wing and the near entirety of the UK media seems fanciful. Imagine perhaps, the Biden administration without the trillion $ recovery plan, or the cancelling of student debt. Doesn't sounds good....

  • also, nice to see Lammy referring to Thatcher as a visionary the other day ffs. What's the point of them?

  • It is terrible tbf (taking myself to the football thread)

  • does look a bit shit, yeah.

  • If you think Starmer is going to unmask and reveal a bunch of progressive policies, rather than the turbo neo-lib stuff he's been shouting about, I've got a bunch of nft's you might be interested in buying.

  • Today it’s announced that 600,000 more people are in absolute poverty. This silly cunt decides the best thing to do is condemn a tshirt for being woke. Seriously fuck this guy.

  • Is it woke? Nike announced it was just based on the colours of the England 1966 training kit.

Seems a silly thing to get annoyed about. Man who likes football gets asked football question and answers, and it's not like he cant campaign for more than 1 thing.
Also, as he is in opposition he isn't in a place to change anything.

  • Is it woke?

The reason the headbangers have jumped on it, which is the reason he’s got involved, is that there’s a bit of pink on it, which means England is gay. Or whatever. Which is absolutely what he needs to be talking about instead of the 300,000 more kids the Tories have forced into penury in the last year.

  • Of course it's not woke. The issue is about changing the national flag on a national kit. Can you imagine Nike zhuzhing up the Brazilian flag with a playful take?

Also do people not understand how the news cycle and PR works?

Had Corbyn been asked the question, he probably wouldn't have mentioned child poverty either. Instead he'd have likely taken the opportunity to explain why the St George's flag and other national symbols are deeply problematic.

Is absolutely mental that people are criticising him for correctly responding to a slam dunk in the Sun.

  • Of course it's not woke.

not that the word means anything anymore but that is why people are moaning about it . that's the angle. and that's why he's.engaged. but you know that.

    in the Sun

    says it all really.

  • Is absolutely mental that people are criticising him for correctly responding to a slam dunk in the Sun.

It's always the same people, funnily enough.

  • always the same people that jump to his defence no matter what too.

    funnily enough

  • no matter what

Actually now I've paused for thought I've realised that I was just backing my boy in a knee jerk reaction.

This is truly a deeply controversial topic and when the annals of history are written, Starmer will be shown to have been on the wrong side of the debate.

  • don't be so fucking disingenuous
