  • Ah must be! I’ve been calling it Blue for years, for the flowers. It’s a plant, it’s green

  • Brill thanks, it looks like it definitely is although called green alkanet according to google!😎
It attracted a particularly busy bee today.
I chucked some random seeds into the soil a year ago when we were doing our house renovation so it’s like a lucky dip in seeing what may sprout!

  • Is the top one 'a' parsley?

  • Could be looks like “Italian flat leaf parsley?”

  • Fan of tabbouleh?

  • Used to scoff it a lot when I lived behind Ridley rd market.
Good call , we have mint and wild garlic in the back so might start chopping 👌

  • I'm don't think it's parsley. Maybe common wormwood?

  • Hmmm, it does have a strong smell if you sniff it which is nothing like parsley.
If wormwood then it has lots of uses including absinthe production!

  • I think wormwood has a silvery tinge to it as it ages, it smells like toilet cleaner to me. Could also be something else in the artemisia family like mugwort.

  • They worked very well in a planter, we'll see what they do in the beds I guess.

  • top one is feverfew (tansy) bottom is alkanet. I've always wondered if you can make a good compost tea from alkanet as it's so similar looking to comfrey but have never actually googled/investigated

  • The flowers will be the confirmation hopefully! Many thanks

  • Cheers. The garden is south facing so that back fence is in shade for most of the day which I think limits the quick growth necessary to really block the fence from sight in the short term.

Part of the trouble is the top of the corrugated iron, which is obviously the ugliest bit, is pretty high at about 2.5m so stuff like sweet pea doesn't cover it (although may still give that a try for this year).

  • You could fan train a Morello cherry (sour cherries for cooking), these will grow on a north facing wall or fence. Both clematis armandii and holboellia latifolia will grow well in shade too

  • A thornless blackberry I manage for a distant neighbour would easily cover that.

  • Anyone got any recommendations for this bed? It gets a reasonable amount of sun as sits to the north of a low E-W wall. The shrub on the right of the pic is hopefully going to shoot up and provide a bit of privacy between my and my neighbour's patios. There is a rowan sapling in the middle. I'm after low maintenance!

  • You need to rent a stump machine

Narrator: He did not need to rent a stump machine

Took two of us 2 hrs; not that hard. Used a lump hammer and hatchet to split the stump up and then a mattock and a spade to dig and lever it out.

  • my everedge installation is a shambles. fkn gravel in my soil. need to redo it

  • Hotbin emptying time

  • First mow of the year. Lifted the stepping stones* my wife hates, marked out the cut lines to roll back the turf before dropping the hieght and adding gravel, and started to cut.

Then my eldest pulled the training wires for the clematis out of the wall. Was fucking livid. Not least because I'd done a really neat job, and it halted progress on the lawn.

*Idk what to replace them with to get through the garden in the non-summer months

  • It's going to be a long multi stage job. But I'm getting grief for not doing it last year.

  • Wondering about when to open ours up. Hope it looks like yours.

  • Nice.

How long has that taken to fill? And do you out the worms in there yourself, and if so why don't they cook?

  • Thats worked very well indeed.
