I've made the leap to teaching and I'm going to be teaching my second crochet workshop! The first one was a trial and POC but went really well.
Join me if anyone is interested, and tell your friends!

Thought this might be the best place to ask. I've got a folding workbench, but the wood on top has had it. I want to replace with a new piece of wood (bog standard ply) but then waterproof it as much as possible. I thought about coating the top in epoxy resin, but that would only waterproof the top (it needs to live outside a lot of the time), or I could paint with outdoor weather-tough paint stuff. But that's not quite as hardwearing. What would you suggest?

Maybe marine or phenolic plywood would be better. Very much not cheap though. Otherwise varnish, varnish, varnish.
Could you make a waterproof cover? Or if the top is removable then keep that indoors?

I replaced a table top for a garden table that is outside all year round.
I got some cheapo pressure treated timber

cut it into slats (so that the water wouldn't pool) and finished it with whatever cheapo stain I had lying around.Has lasted fine through this winter. Slats probably aren't required if it is going to be folded.

I've used Sadolin Extra on a potting bench - needs cleaning and another coat most years, but that's little more than an hour's work on a dry day.

We made a 6ft version of the geometric ball.
Not all my work this time, managed to fob some of the tedious work off onto our recent hire.
Came out nice.

Huge, will that be hanging or on a pedestal or what?
-
• #2262
That is insane. Wow
-
• #2263
That’s a hanger, like all our larger balls the rotator is internal so it can be lowered in/out of sight on stage etc.
Our pedestal ones go up to 1m diameter but beyond that they get a big top-heavy/unwieldy.
With the construction method used we could absolutely turn that into a pedestal fit one if we wanted. The problem there becomes installation and setup.
Anyone can make a sculpture for permanent install but we make functional pieces that can be thrown onto a stage truck and be reliable every night on tour for weeks/months at a time.

Would anyone be interested to take on a small commission? Looking for a pair of simple bedside tables, oak 3 legged milking stool style. The ones available online are just a little too short. Drop me a DM if so

Anyone on here got experience in tshirt printing?
I've done some using iron on vinyl, but the vinyl eventually comes off. Thinking of using stencils and either fabric paint, or ink. I guess ink wont work so well on darker tshirts.
Any tips, advice, products recommendations etc?

Silkscreening is what you want, no?
-
• #2268
sorry, yes, in conjunction with a silkscreening mesh, which i have already
-

Yes I’ve done some screen printing of tees, hoodies etc. Nothing crazy complex - max 4 colours, all blocked, no halftones/blends etc.
The pulling of the ink itself is pretty straightforward, it’s mostly in the prep of the screens, keeping things clean and logical, making sure your garment is registered correctly before you begin. -

And keep the screen wet!

This is so beautiful.
Big oak is a precious material, if I find some back home I’ll be in touch for a make.

I did my printing apprenticeship in T-shirt screen printing.
Any questions give me a shout, happy to help where I can

I've had proper results with acrylic art paints thinned with water.
Applied with a sponge using paper stencils.
I had a slightly more trashy aestetic preference back then though. -

We recently bought and used some acrylic "fabric" paints - to echo drøn it just appeared to be very thin acrylic paint. Worked quite well for printing with fruit and veg though.

Thanks all. My first efforts are over on the art thread.
'Ver nice.
