The thing that first caught my eye was it’s ability to manually adjust flow, I liked that more so than the computerised options out there. Aesthetically I liked that it looked less modern than some of the other machines available and the wooden touches look good. Lastly I liked the fact they were a little less common (at that time) vs machines by ECM and Rocket etc.

£28 for an Aromaboy, gotta be worth a try?
(I'll write a short review once tested).

I was tempted a few weeks back, similarly thought it was worth a punt at less than £30. Think they really struggle to get up to a decent enough temperature (mostly under 90 degrees) which won't be great (especially for lighter roasts).
They do look very cool it must be said

Yeah i lust after one every time I see one in person - just feels extremely extraneous.. that said where is this from?

I read there're little ways to help improve the brew and it is wiryh experimenting with the process just like other brew methods.
I might see if I can get it PAT tested then take it into work...

I’ve definitely been tempted by those aesthetics. Tbh I’m curious to hear how you get on with it!

Does anyone have a Moccamaster and a clever dripper?
-
• #26035
Yeah I am tempted by this I must admit

I bought some beans from Girls Who Grind on the 9th August, they arrived a few days later and I never even got to open the bag before we ripped out the kitchen and I've been living off Asda instant stuff since. Thursday last week I got to open the bag and make the first pour over again and the beans are still decent! Maybe keeping them in a 3°C house with no working heating for the last 6 months helped

Variable temperature kettle, worth it? My Aeropresses are always better if I switch the kettle off before it does. But getting the optimum temp can be a lottery.

I think they’re also just excellent kettles, from vague experience. Quick to boil, nice to pour.

Definitely worth it IMO. I am surprised at how much I use the temperature selector. Jump between 90 and 98 quite a lot. The roaster I order basically all of my coffee from states brew temps which is really helpful and the coffee is genuinely better if I follow their temp guide. I.e. I have always brewed 'as hot as possible' for light roasted coffee based basically on what James Hoffman says. But brewing at 94c as per the roaster gives a much better cup of coffee with the coffee that I'm drinking right now.
And because I used a Flair 58 for espresso, its nice to be able to really get the kettle up to 100c to negate any thermal loss when pouring the boiling water into my group head.

I have one and like it a lot. I mean, its not as good as a Moccamaster or a Sage Barista filter machine or anything like that, and it makes a very small amount of coffee, but it looks good and the coffee is decent enough. I prefer a darker roast though.
Ours does most of its work in our spare room when we have guests - whichever parent is not up with their kids can have a quick coffee in bed!
Tbh, the name makes me laugh everytime I think of it, so that's worth 30 quid to me. Aroma Boy!

The Bosch Styline TWK8631GB I've been told is a good variable temperature kettle, interestingly £56.40 in black and £80 in white.

Pah, why would you get that when the Smeg one is only a hundred or so more?
-
• #26043
I've got that exact kettle. (Black). Very good in terms that it makes water hot at the temp you ask for.

• #26044
I have both

This is good to know thanks. Capacity wise it looks like it'll just about match my daily v60 which is an 18g x 320ml brew.
@nef @plasticniki I'd say take a punt if you can to treat yourselves, £34 delivered with filter papers. Free delivery at £50+ if there're other bits you need/want from the website too.

I’m quite interested in this idea, do the ones with the long spout prove to be more pleasant to pour with though?
-
• #26047
Definitely! If using for just aeropress like zazkar may be, it’s totally ok. And even with a pourover it’s fine, but once you use a gooseneck kettle, it’s hard to imagine not using one for pourover. You have so much more control.

A question of my own, any recommendations for jug/countertop water filters?

What’s the best budget hand grinder for filter?
Is there something >£40 that’s worth buying?I got my Timemore c2 off AliExpress ages ago for £44 or something but it sounds like that’s been unreliable.
What was the decision for the Lelit over other options. Glad to hear it’s still going strong!
