I assume they mean onto the floorboards.

Further assumption being that they will be covered with carpet or other secondary surface.

No dramas! Kinda yes to everything. Yes, no masking tape, but no spills, but also they are being painted, which I’m doing atm, with no masking tape, again, because life’s too short and I’m confident in the results without needing tape.

Ah nice. Is there special “non-slippy” paint for stairs?

At this stage no, not even proper wood paint! Just going to use a pot of spare low sheen regular paint as I can’t have another pot of paint in the house, we have a cupboard full.

Cursed porridge getting chomped off. Been dreaming of this day since getting the house 8 years ago… can barely believe it’s happening.

The pebbledash had cracked around the bays, wicking moisture in and keeping it there, causing massive damp patches on the inside with no hope of ever drying out…

Gonna be tinting the bricks back to their original fired-brown colour, can’t stand the bright yellow that everyone seems to end up with.

I've got a wet room bathroom that seems to be constructed by the wall panel being glued onto plasterboard which is on timber studs.

If I wanted to move the basin and/or towel rail, how much of a headache would this be in terms of opening up the walls and patching it back in?

A fix wouldn't have to be visually perfect by any means. I want to have the whole thing taken out and replaced, but the lead time for a bathroom fitter in my area is 4 months, and I have vague plans to do more substantial works in, say, 12 months. So there is an incentive to improve the room without completely destroying it in the process.

Hot and cold feeds, and waste connections are available already in the new locations.

has anybody found a supplier for fancy-looking, pinterest-friendly tiles but that isn't insane money. my OH and I are trying to find the middle ground between £20/m2 and £120/m2

We found Tile Mountain has good sales

most of the claybrook tiles ive been looking at are around £65/m2

What kind of tiles? Wall/floor? Interior/exterior?

I'd imagine you'd have to open up a significant portion of wall to install suitable material for the sink and towel rail to be screwed to. Either studs or sheets of OSB screwed to the existing.

oh yeah that would help wouldnt it. Kitchen walls above the worktop. The brief is rectangular, off white and with some textural variation rather than totally uniform metro tiles

Love the fact you’re adding sorry too them! Gotta agree, the just cleaned look is a bit much, not planning to ever do ours, it’s patina!

‘London yellow stock’ bricks were never yellow in the first place, even when new; the fired surface was always much darker.

When tearing down the old bathroom/scullery at the back of our house, we uncovered a large area of facing-brick hidden inside the eaves of the old roof, having never seen daylight in 140 years; they are almost the same colour as most of the rest of the exposed exterior walls.

Grinding them back and leaving the garish yellow is just way too intense a finish for me…

What's your method for tinting them?

Shower tray turned up fully smashed and bath turned up chipped. And cause we are buying stuff 'just in time ' the builders are now delayed for 3 days while we get replacements. Grrr

Anyone know what these brackets are? They appeared on our newly built wall yesterday. Never seen anything like it before, but I assume they're to hold capstones on in case they slip free?
