  • How would you rate Sonder Ti frames in terms of quality, warranty etc.? I had a Pickenflick a few years ago that I still regret selling. I think both it and Sonders are made by Waltly. Considering Camino Ti as a replacement do-it-all bike for my Sutra LTD.

  • I'm really happy with mine - they (Sonder) were responsive for a non-fatal error. Nice welds, nice feeling, well thought out.

  • I would proceed with caution - Alpkit are laying off staff left right and centre and it might make sense to spend money elsewhere if you are concerned about long term warranty.

They have also updated the cable routing on the headtube. This causes the cables/hoses to rub on the carbon steerer and cause it to fail. I’ve seen this first hand and it’s scary that these are in production.

That being said, my partner has a Ti Camino (external routing) which she adores and has been solid.

  • Ouch, that sounds indeed a severe design flaw. I have also seen several reports about fork mounts disintegrating. I think I will pass on, especially that I have spent so much on Sutra already and it is fitting me well, so titanium dreams can wait a few years more.

  • I didn't reply very well, I should have pointed out I have a Broken Road and that I'm very happy with that and the build quality etc.

Not surprised they are laying off staff, seemingly overreached with stock and are almost permanently on sale.

  • Late to this thread, but since it says 'stainless', here's my Genesis 953...

Love the bike, built up as shown it's a whisker under 8kg.

  • Nice build - I still regret selling my 853 Volare, great bikes... promised myself if a stainless one ever popped up i'd replace it in a second

  • 1st ride today... I'm a happy chap

  • Beautiful.
Nice pairing of Shimano group and Campagnolo wheels.

  • I got your reply, layoffs are pretty much everywhere nowadays, I just got discouraged by this cable routing issue. I don't know who thought cable rubbing a carbon steerer was a good idea. I have an opportunity to buy a used one here in Poland, current gen, so it has this potential issue. I love titanium, but if I am going to spend loads of money on it to be my "bike for life", it would better not have such design flaws.

  • That frame finish with the matt front end is lovely

  • The Kish is taking shape again, I’m still in a cranks dilemma though.

  • Controversial I know, that's the wheels I had then... these days it's sporting a set of Vision 40s...

  • Slim black cranks would look great, maybe some Cooks or Stronglight Ironlight? Or if going for a more modern look then perhaps some Ingrid?

Frame is lovely but looks quite large - how long is the headtube?

  • It’s not actually that big a bike;
    Head tube 170mm
    Top tube ctc 565mm
    Seat tube ctt 595mm
    Chainstay midpoint 410mm
    It’s a great ride.
Cooks would be awesome, but ££££ I may pop my spare Omnium on to have a look. Although I have a set of nice BMX ones coming for something else that I may try. Or maybe just put the Sugino set back on for now?

  • I meant it as a compliment!

  • They have also updated the cable routing on the headtube. This causes the cables/hoses to rub on the carbon steerer and cause it to fail. I’ve seen this first hand and it’s scary that these are in production.

Doesn't seem like a real big deal; just put some suitable tape on the steerer where the hoses rub. Aluminium tape, maybe?

  • Dunno if I've ever posted in here before. I'm now (perhaps only briefly) a Ti-exclusive person. Kinesis and Burls, here.

  • 👌 must be a nice job. I hope the occasional colleague gets to surf that chariot.

  • Looking good!

  • My friend applied two layers of gorilla tape where the cables meet the steerer. He checked after 2 months and it had worn through the tape and a portion of the carbon steerer. Never heard of aluminium tape but that sounds like it could help.

It’s a dangerous and dumb design and they should be called out on it.

  • Get to a motorcycleshop and buy a sheet of carbon anti scratch that they put on tanks and rub spots . Far cheaper than the tidly cycle patches available .
