  • The best answer- thanks

  • Hey, that's basically what I said!

  • I got reasons about why the materials are bad from smyth!

  • Very few UK pallets have been treated with methyl bromide,
which will be indicated on the corner blocks as 'MB'.

    I haven't collected any pallets post-Brexit.
The best ones used to be from mediterranean Oak species from places importing tiles from Turkey.

  • Some are also heat treated, rather than chemically.

However, they are rough as fuck. You'll have to sand carefully to avoid snagging and creating and edge you need to sand again. Then you'll need a thick layer of varnish to give a finish appropriate for little hands.

That said there are sometimes pallets that are better quality. I got these mini ones from Halfords which are definitely not your average ones.

  • Cleaning will be an absolute fucker too.

  • A similar vibe would be a 2nd hand ikea futon.

  • Those fold up to a sofa ones? Yes. A classic.

  • Anyone bought installed storage lately? Got a few quotes , to do three rooms and wondering if the high prices are sensible

  • But not with those fucking horrific mattresses. Put a real one on.

Even talking about it is giving me flashbacks to crashing on them and waking up with a broken back and a come down/hangover. I swear I slept better on a folded towel on the floor.

  • Thank you sir ..

  • @Chalfie if you want low cost timber have a rummage in Solo Wood Recycling in Croydon. It's close to Ikea. They always have loads of the 'ribs' from bigger pallets, and sometimes ply in offcut strips. It's a nice place to support.

  • Given it’s both hot and cold, what else could it be? An airlock?

Twisted liner inside the hose to the shower head?

  • How easy will painting one of these beds (single size) white be for an average painter (me)? Will be unassembled. Is it one of those things that will end up looking shit if you don't spend hours and hours on the details?

  • It’ll take forever, and you’ll wish you hadn’t started. Take it to a furniture sprayer.

  • If it's disassembled then a 4" foam roller and some decent primer and topcoats should get it done fairly easily

  • No. It'll look fine.

Once you put a duvet on it and stuff shit underneath you'll barely notice any rough spots.

The main thing is finding a way to mark the visible faces (prob on the bottom of the feet), so you can focus on getting a really nice finish on those.

  • I just hammer nails into a bit of scrap wood board laying about. Same job and cheaper.

  • I need to remove a stump from my front lawn; size 12 birkenstock for scale, I drilled a load of holes last spring to kill it off, which worked. Any tips for removal? I dont really want to buy a big axe becuase I know i'll never use it again.

  • Don't you have a library of things or something? We have Borrow Don't Buy
    https://borrowdontbuy.co.uk/

  • Also

I dont really want to buy a big axe becuase I know i'll never use it
    again.

Just leave it in your garage with the door open for 30 secs then someone will take care of it for you. #toosoongif?

  • They we're even slightly interested in hand tools alas

  • Leave it there and turn it into a table/feature/stick a birdbath on top.

    Anything else will be backbreaking.
