  • I’ve just stripped my gravel bike rear hub after about 4 months use to find some knackered bearings.
    It’s a Novatec hub which seems poorly sealed, I can sort this out a bit but would stainless bearings be a good idea? (6001)

  • Stay with stainless. A poorly sealed hub will let grit in, eventually destroying ceramic bearings if that’s what you’re thinking.

    No, just get branded (SKF, FAG, NSK etc.) regular steel 6001-2RS. Stainless doesn't have the load rating or durability of regular steel, and your problem is wear, not corrosion.

  • Did they have seals either side?
