I just stumbled across this
https://youtu.be/L90Tt-lc7GI?feature=shared
50/50 mix pure tung and boiled linseed+ beeswax - I can't imagine it fairing well for exterior stuff but guess it's designed to dry well
the meths is mostly for good clean but with a bit of luck it will soften break down and remove the existing finish - what to do next is a bit mind boggling in options. I do like birwax furniture polish it's the easiest to reverse (white spirit) and re apply but water will stain through. Could just use tung oil or tung oil topped with the furniture wax. The other useful product is osmo wood wax or polyx oil - these are an all in one finish.. with all of them the quantity need is small and they can all achieve a glassy varnish like finish. But varnish I would avoid - I think that timber will be great with just the briwax (apply it leave to soak in a little and buff up gently)
