Might be a smidge over your budget but the Outdoor Research Helium rain jacket is very popular on the YouTube hill walking/camping channels. It's very lightweight and looks like a crisp bag but people swear by them.
I've got a Rab Kinetic Alpine jacket made from Proflex which is designed to be worn all day on the hill, is very soft and works really well. But again I think that was £100+
The Frog Toggs gear is dirt cheap and very waterproof, but again like a crisp packet and fairly minimal.
Mate of mine swears by the Haglofs L.I.M jackets, I think they are usually discounted if you look around online

Cheers, I think I'm looking for something a little less lightweight than the Helium or Frog Toggs
Rab Kinetic or the Patgonia Torrentshell that @jb suggested both look ideal but a fair bit over the budget from what I can tell and you don't often get the sales in popular sizes from what I can see. Will have a look at the Haglofs stuff.
@sidewinder unfortuantely I think that would be too small for me as well.
Any recommendations for a rain jacket, need to replace my Marmot one which has died a death? Nothing too fancy (£50-£100), will more be used for going to the shops than hiking but will get the occasional use beyond that.
Any brands to go for/avoid? Cheers
