Touched on this previously without definitive requirements and this answers forthcoming.
I want a couple of solar powered CCTV cameras installed that can be controlled/accessed remotely so assuming 3/4G capability (there is 4G in the area). So what do I need?
2 scaffold poles - check
2 reolink or similar 4G solar powered cameras c.£80-130 each on Amazon (obviously)
What do I need in terms of SIM SIM-Only plan (hopefully cheap) to run them? Can I link them using one sim? Thanks in advance

Kestrels do this whilst hovering impressively

Anyone renewed diving license recently?
I am not a uk passport holder, nor have I used my passport for uk residency applications as also asked online, so will it easier to just go to the post offfice to do it?

Kräutler suggests two different explanations: “In contrast to humans, many of the animals that eat bananas can see light in the UV range. The blue luminescence of the banana fruit could give them a distinct signal that the fruit is ripe.”

I have and it was quick but I am a UK passport holder and used my passport photo that they already had. So not the same, I would do it all at the post office where you can ask questions.

Thanks, post office does look the easiest option.

Possibly. Which could be why it's now protesting by making an undiagnosable knocking noise.

And their head is like its on a gimbal, it stays completely still relative to their prey even when their wings and tail are moving.
If you ever see one on a falconers glove when they're focused on something and the falconer moves his arm around, the head stays in the same spot.

Mate, of course he knows this. You're talking to a owl.

I think by now I have learned more in this thread than in school.
So do I get this right - dogs are able to see / detect the degradation of chlorophyll with their UV vision capabilities because they're too dumb to see proper yellow to know the banana is ripe?
-
• #121039
I'm not sure that a dog does have UV capabilities in their vision. The colours in your diagram suggest that that a dog's UV capabilities are not significantly different to those of a human.

Our dog doesn’t care if a banana is ripe or not. If you leave one unattended and within her reach it will be eaten. Also works for all other food types as well as hats, gloves and all small items.

I was joking!
Dog's don't have the UV vision - but like a lot of other animals they see most colours less saturated - and I've found that image above fitting / funny, as it suggests they are just not able to see a nice, saturated yellow, as a ripe banana would have 🙂 -

Anyone know anything about perspex or similar hard clear, non shattery materials? Director wants to film something being painted onto some kind of clear sheet looking through from the other side.
The sheet will need to be about 50cmx75cm - potentially a bit smaller. How thick does it need to be for stiffness? 5mm ok?
Don't want to spend a fortune for one shot ideally - was looking at 20mm and was quoted 300 quid.
We'd planned to mount from one side in a clamp but could always build a simple frame around it to support the edges I guess - minimal faff better though. A little flex is fine but flapping around like a flapper, less so.

Bloody hell ! Can your dog peel a banana ?

what's the best way to strip the black off DT Swiss 240s hubs?

Toughened glass?
or Polycarbonate sheet. You'll probably need different paint for that.
If not, by a bunch of those shatterproof rulers and glue them together....

A sheet of PET would be worth looking in to. Optically, it's clearer than perspex, and way tougher.
It's what 2 litre drinks bottles and riot shields are made of. No idea of the cost I'm afraid. -

I’ve not seen Dolly peel a banana, but I have seen her peel (skin) a rabbit… I know butter wouldn’t melt.

was looking at 20mm
That will stop .22LR but probably nothing larger. 5mm in a jury rigged frame is enough at 50cm×75cm. Search for acrylic, it will be cheaper than Perspex® or polycarbonate. I priced up sheets about twice that area a while ago and was looking at about £30 IIRC, I have the shop bookmarked, I'll add it when I get home.

Thanks - good to know acrylic over perspex (didn't realise specific brand) but is clarity decent? And presumably want somewhere that isn't going to post it all scuffed to fuck. Shooting Monday so would want to order next day today or tomorrow.

if you're London based then Denny Plastics are super helpful, reasonable, and White City based, so you could go up there and see it in person

Lovely guys
imo 20mm is far thicker than you need. Depending on how it's mounted I'd expect 6mm+ to be fine. But ask the supplier, they usually know what they're talking about
I thought I'd seen something about this on the BBC, but couldn't remember specifics
