  • Thanks! Built the wheels up:
    Mavic Open Pro carbon rims
Chris King hubs with ceramic upgrade
    Sapim CX-Ray spokes
    Brass nipples rear, alu front
Vittoria Corsa 25’s with Vittoria latex tubes. Measure up at 27mm

  • Interesting to see that yours has external cabling for rear brake. Do you know the year?

  • I’ve got a titanium post to go on soon

But it looks so damn good with a black post! Between the paintjob and chrome fork, I believe the 'match stem & post colour' rule doesn't apply to this frameset.

  • Another difference is the extra bit on the top of Rocca's head tube.

  • Damn this is really perfect. Love the silver hubs and spokes and the black seatpost fits very well with the paintjob

  • Just to show that I try to practice what I preach

  • love the VMB bottle cages, stem and headset !

  • Full bike image then please !

  • It's this one, pictured here with the old seat post - I only fairly recently got the Serotta carbon/ti post and that was thanks to someone on here who spotted it.

  • I built this one exclusively to annoy @Hulsroy #bdhu

  • (It's got a black headset now).

  • Because of its size its known as the freuler geometry. I believe anything from 60cm up have this.

  • I think its around a 2001. Here is the catalog from that year. As you can see they have external rear brake cabling.

  • What wheels are on both those Serotta builds, depth looks perfect!

  • Thanks- Zipp 202’s on one and Light Bicycle on the other, I’d need to measure them to find out the depth as I can’t recall what it was.

  • Thanks, but it looks like it will be the palms of your hands that will annoyed..

  • Palms of the hands will be totally happy on top of the hoods, with nice level forearms behind 👍

  • Alright captain

  • Roger admiral

  • Would love some MGOOF opinions on this one

Just picked up this 1998 Basso Gap for far too cheap, and can therefore justify spending some money on it. Already decided I’m going down the 105 groupset route (R7000) cos sensible but any views on the rest of it? Mainly wheelset options (this Rodi set is on its way out) and finishing kit - black or silver for stem/seatpost/bars/headset?

  • personally i'd go silver stem, seatpost headset etc, and maybe some carbon/anodised rims to match the group?

  • You’re right, the silver up top does look good, and the seatpost is a fancy one so a shame to ditch it. Definitely black alloy rims - 30mm depth ish would look cool

  • Damn thats some serious BDHU.
I would keep the silver finishing kit and just get some nice wheels

  • In page187 you can see my red gazelle, the sram groupset has some silver and black in. I still had a silver headset on the shelve.
Stem and seatpost is best to match unless one is titanium or in frame colors

  • With the silver finishing kit, silver Kinlin XR300s would look mega. Also, highly reccomend a strap wrench for taking the headset apart as/when needed
