  • This feels illegal somehow.

  • Yeah sure. :)

  • Details please!

  • Planet X have some random campag spares in their sale cheap

  • I had a medium cage Record RD with a crack starting when the limit screws are.

Pulled the cage, ti pivot bolt, ti derailleur hanger bolt, and ti cable fixing bolt and installed them on a short cage Chorus derailleur. Cleaning and regressing every thing else.

  • Ok, so stupid question time. I’m trying to help out a friend here with some weird “gravel” touring bike from the oughts.

Campagnolo 10 speed shifter should be able to shift a XTR m950 front derailleur across a double CTR m952 44/32 crankset right?

  • XTR 952 crankset is a triple.

  • Running it as a double without the small ring.

  • Yeh interesting, strange that the cable would snap, i guess he cut it short when removing them from the bike.
If you cant take them apart then i dont know what you can do, if you have a local and trustworthy shop you can take it to them and see if they know if its fixible, if you're lucky they might know the problem and give you some advice.

@Eeyorecore interesting hack that, ive tried swapping record parts to non record parts and often ran into problems with there being small tolerance issues making neither compatible.
Ive tried mostly with the 9speed ti stuff and record 10s.

  • After a bit more fiddling I managed to get the spool in the right position and fed a cable through. Under tension it seems to be winding in and out when shifting so hopefully it's working again, won't know for sure until it's all connected up on a bike I guess.

I’ve never had problems with 10 speed Record and Chorus compatibility. There are some issues with compatibility and lower tiered groups.

Around 2008ish when campy was flushing out a lot of 10 speed parts I stuck a Chorus alloy long cage on a Record short cage body, and gutted a left chorus shifter and replaced the brake levers on both with carbon Record blades.

Ran those in conjunction with a Modolo front downtube shifter, some TA triple cranks, XTR triple front derailleur, and IRD 11-32 campy cassette.

    Bike nerd heaven.

  • Ah nice, i had this problem woth one of the later 10s groupsets with the ultrashift that would really do much unless it was cabled up as they changed the mechanism.
Once on the bike it worked fine but off it i couldn't always get all the gears going up a'd down without any cables.

    @Eeyorecore good to know !
Ive tried mostly switching out 9s record parts with 9s chorus parts but i guess they were too old to have any compatibility.
The project was putting a long cage from a mirage onto a chorus body using ti bolts... But even the length of the cage hanger bolt wasnt the right length...

  • Did anyone ever take apart and service Athena 11s shifters? I bought some second hand but they only shift 8 gears and the little lever gets stuck sometimes...

  • .

  • You can totally strip the 11sp ultra shift right down. It's actually not hard at all. I've one it several times now. check my thread https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/384608/?offset=50

The Athena 11s shifters, I have stripped down the power shift ones, but have had trouble getting them to downshift (release cable) smoothly if I'm honest. The ultrashift version (2010 only) are identical to Chorus/Record 11sp

  • Yeah stripping down 11sp ultra shift isn't too hard, you do need a hooked thing to loop the two springs back in place though. There's a decent enough official Campag video on YouTube
that shows how. It's a bit of a puzzle putting it back together correctly, but you'll get there.

  • Interesting. Thanks for that. I was under the impression that the shifters post 2011 couldn't be stripped down. The components look the same as the catalogue diagram though.
I'm still on the hunt for a Record 11spd front mech (if anyone has one they want to sell let me know) before I can test out the shifters properly so may not need to strip them.

  • Yes they can be dissembled, cleaned, and reassembled... but Campag don't sell the parts separately. IME the ratchet disks eventually wear, and that's all that needs to be replaced. I've mostly got spare parts from cannibalising others that have broken levers etc.
Do note if doing a post-2011 lever that they changed the order of cone spring washers from what is shown in the video, adding one more, so make sure you keep the bits in the right order.

Not a bargain but surprised to see a new pair in stock, 10 speed Record Ultrashift levers

  • I've been slowly collecting Record 11 Speed components (2011-2015) to build up a complete groupset and I finally managed to snag a braze on front mech to complete the set. It's just turned up in the post and looks in almost new condition however I've just released this is the post 2015 model.
Am I right in thinking that this might have compatibility issues with pre 2015 shifters?

  • I'm not sure if anyone else is running Ekar and has had the issues described in this reddit post but I have started to get the 'creak'.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/bikewrench/comments/nicwhr/campagnolo_ekar_noise_problems/?share_id=vsYJ-YmB-0U9_gABg-M79&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&utm_source=share&utm_term=3

Have people had any luck with tightening the lock ring to 65NM, seem awfully high?

Or do I just need to get better at cleaning? I would say I've ridden the set up for around 1600k before the noise started.

  • Before classifieds or ebay is anyone interested in a Record EPS 11 speed groupset with V3 battery and interface? In excellent condition with a spare pair of brakes - very low mileage across everything. Currently no Record chainset but I could include a 175 52/36 SR four arm chainset. DM me and I cam send photos

  • What is the best 8-speed cassette available? Obvs the Record 8V is the thing but they are hard to come by, costly, and I think not available with a 28T bottom spocket.
