  • Got a retro Pinarello Veneto steel frame for sale .
Anyone fancy this only £195. Would look so cool with a silver groupset.

  • Have you never stood facing the bike with the front wheel between your legs and twisted the bars side to side? It doesn't take a huge amount of force to flex most old setups to buggery.

I don't know about any 2kW action, but quill stems are just yesterday's shit; al dente boat anchor gear. But mainly, skinny bars are a joke. They may well have clamped okay when they were all made of steel, and being on the hoods wasn't much of a position, but that ancient interface just doesn't cut the mustard sometimes when you land after riding off a tall gutter or something. It's so marginal. And of course, you can forget carbon bars.

It's definitely a shame that 1" threadless wasn't a thing for longer, until 31.8 bars came along, and thus you have to use a steerer shim to get fat bars on a skinny fork; some sleeker stem options would be grand. At least you can still get some rather nice 1" threadless forks...

    Really?

Um, yeah - the Innicycle threaded to threadless adapter is completely indistinguishable from a pure threadless setup; the only giveaway is knowing that particular fork was only ever available as threaded, or maybe recognising the headset. Judging by your subsequent talk of proportion, I think you must've misread that statement.

  • It’s also never going to look right.

Quil stems on older frames are, undoubtedly not the ultimate performance choice- but then neither is an old steel frame.

Take from them what they have to offer- which is often a great handling, fast and comfortable ride whilst looking beautiful. Don’t go chasing modern bike performance and lose a huge chunk of the visual appeal that is available with this era of frame.

  • As far as I'm concerned, this machine would not look as good with a poxy old school stem.

I love how we've got folks arguing against the whole point of this thread: get an old frame and blitz it up.

Can't folks get with the hotrod vibe? If that Colnago fork was one iota less cool, I'd be advocating for a Columbus Minimal. As it is, I've always thought it a terrible shame there wasn't some of the frame's fancy paint around the crown to tie it in...

  • Obviously it’s to each their own, but (to me) that bike would look better with finishing kit that matched the frame.

  • This^

  • Quill converters should be banned from this thread, no matter how nice the implementation.

  • This should be mentioned in the opening post

  • I saw this on their Instagram. An absolute dream bike.

  • Benotto falling at the last hurdle because of that filthy SRAM 1x

  • Bah! That Colnago is just about the best bike in this thread.

Or maybe there needs to be a HHSRRB thread

  • Query for the mgoof heads - I’m running Easton ea70 hoops on a 90s Nigel dean frame which is 531c . Getting plenty break rub when out of the saddle. Just to be expected ? should I look for some stiffer wheels ?

  • May not be your issue but proper internal cam QR skewers stopped my wheels rubbing.

  • should I look for some stiffer wheels ?

How many spokes on the Easton wheels? Might need more tension.

  • What size is it? Looks great

  • Interesting - could be a cheap thing to try.

  • 28 at the rear are radial on the non-driveside and 2-cross on the driveside. Maybe I’ll take them into the LBS for a look.

Found a review of the wheel set which does mention flex.

Perhaps it’s a combo of frame and wheel.

  • Its a size 56.heres a built up pic

  • Rad. Match!! Here’s mine:

Went with a quill. Titanium 3TTT Pro. Can attest that it is not flexy (120). Research suggests that the welded quills are far stiffer than the moulded ones. I’ve got a titanium post to go on soon

  • Yes mate! That is shot hot. Id on the wheels?

  • Went with a quill.

Good job. That and the rest, it's all very balanced.

  • When did you get the Tecnos Love the colour Scheme.

  • Nice to see another Tecnos in this colourway. Don't see too many about.
