Clearly the official story isn't true. So why do they feel they have to lie about it? What are they covering up? (PS I am not a conspiracy theorist)

Apparently it was Middleton herself who edited the photo. Seems unlikely. Presumably we've not seen an unedited photo of her or her children issued from the palace for years (ever, probably). Not sure why it's so hard to admit that, or to insist that she / William take all the photos that are issued.

I thought it was probably deliberate in a “we want you to know that what you see is what we allow you to see” way.

I'd have thought "we photoshopped the photo because she's recovering from surgery" would have been a better response than "Kate is personally repsonsible for the final editing and processing of all the photos that come out of the royal familly", but I'm no PR expert.

The most reasonable explanation is "have you ever tried to get 3 kids to stand still for a photo?" - but it strikes me that if you're after good PR then a photo with your kids showing a bit of personality would be far preferable to the black-smile zombie-kids photo they put out?

Some Tik Toker has found Kate and the kids visited a charity back in November in nearly identical clothes except the Reiss jumper she was wearing with that distinctive neckline was white. Incredible stuff.

The thing is, two of the kids are old enough to be able to pose now (one of them is probably in portrait training already ahead of his first coin/stamp)...they've only got to get the wriggly one on the left to be still and look in the right direction for a moment. I've got an 11 and 8yo and it's not that hard to get a photo of them with their mum.
