  • missed this at the time dude but this is just superb. with or without the Zipps. but the quill stem is pure win

  • I put an SRAM Force 1 group on my 1980s Benotto 3000.

  • What a bangin paintjob. Tape looks great with it.

  • Thanks, it was yellow first but I wasn’t happy so put original Benotto blue on.

  • Did the original tape also have a lustre? That works way better than a normal colour, I reckon

  • Bang up job. Chapeau Sir! I like your use of the single chain ring. Out of interest, what is the gearing set up on your most eye catching rig?

  • Thanks. We don’t have many hills here so I put a 42 ring on with an 11/26 cassette which just about does the job apart from downhill or with a strong tailwind, but tbh it’s not my fast riding bike.

  • I got it with no tape so bought the Benotto blue extra. It’s a lovely colour.

  • Here is one of my current wips.
Still need to find a feont carbon derailleur (campy prices being qtupid and all) and i've got a rzar derailleur with carbon cage im servicing at the moment.
Still not sure on zipps or low profiles because it is technically a climbing bike...

  • Took the wheel off my road bike while its on the trainer, and it is sitting next to my mid 80s colnago sprint. Have to say it looks great and suddenly really tempting to give it the MGOOF treatment.

Dont think I will as it was a long term project and looks lovely as it is but theres just a wee part of me that says do it.

  • You can do it and still plan to rebuild it when you've collected all the bits for your long term plans! MGOOF it for a year

  • Well It's already a completed project. SO would be taking it all down. :)

Still tempting. Some big deep carbon wheels and a lovely red steel frame.

  • Ah well just keep the parts safe in a box and try both styles :)

  • Nice (could be nicer with a quill stem) Gazelle Champion Mondial with DA9000 on Marktplaats atm

  • Nah, it'd be nicer with a carbon fork to go with the proper stem and bars. Go full hot rod!

  • Just had my Colnago Tecnos built up by my LBS.

  • Looks really great!

  • DA9000 is the last modern group that looked good on older frames. 9100 and 9200 are to much like mountain bike groups. They don’t match the aesthetic.

  • That is the bomb.

    Threadless fork, or adapter?

  • Threaded fork, but running the Inni Cycles adaptor.

  • That's the only adapter that looks exactly like a threadless setup... Lovely bit of work.

Were you tempted to go with a slightly older groupset?

  • It's thanks to this forum I found out about this adapter.
Originally I was looking at the older 11sp Record/ Super Record, bit prices are high for clean ones. Ended up shopping around for individual parts and saved quite alot on this one even though its all brand new.

  • Nice one. I found out about it from the guy who invented it at Bike Forums, and came in here pimping it for all I was worth; too many flexy old quill stems and skinny bars in MGOOF.

If you're gonna hotrod an old frame, I say bring all the performance improvements.

  • Keirin riders manage 2000w sprints on quill stems... If you need that much stiffness why would you start with a skinny tubed frame anyway.

looks exactly like a threadless setup

Really? 1 1 /8" stem on a skinny headtube for 1" fork is always going to be out of proportion to some extent.

I agree with most stems this is the case, but the Deda Superleggero as used on the bike in question is slimmer and more svelte than most and imo works well.
