Not sure what your budget is but I've a pair of Zipp bar ends in 10 speed flavour. They're actually made by SRAM (SRAM branding is on them) but I believe they're more exotic than the usual SRAM stuff due to their having carbon levers and a specific shifting design not found on most bar ends. Obvs they won't be the cheapest option for you if (possibly) you were thinking of something more practical.

Hi,
Thanks for getting in touch.
I have used a set of these before and there was an issue with them - not sure, but think it was that one version (?) of these shifters only worked with 10s DA rear and nothing else?? Do you happen to know for sure what RD your set is designed to work with? And give me a ballpark for price - I'm not looking for cheapest, but maybe best value.. -

I e some shimano da attached to a set of TT bars. I could split.

Alan, can you let me know what the model number is for the DA ones you have? Definitely 10s?
And any idea of price?
Pop me a PM with the info..

Ok, well to discuss pricing first, I'd referred to the shifters as not the cheapest option, but really I was trying to be modest in my speech when discussing some of the priciest bar end shifters I'm aware of, costing £300 when new. Didn't like to sound too showy:) So obvs the price I'll be asking will take the new price into account (and the fact that the shifters are pretty sought after and hold their value), and I'm not sure if at this price point they could be considered best value in most people's books, so possibly not what you're after but let me know if you feel otherwise. Regarding the rear derailleur compatibility, I haven't heard anything of the issue you speak of. I've now had two sets of the shifters and so have spent a while online looking into correct setup and installation and haven't come across anything regarding the shifters only working with Dura Ace. Everywhere I look where they've been sold/are selling them, the seller only gives details that they work with 10 speed set-ups. But perhaps you've misinterpreted the info posted that explains how there are two versions of the shifters, one for Shimano and one for SRAM derailleurs? (each designed to give a certain pull actuation for the different derailleur designs). These are the only versions of the shifter I know of. BTW my shifters are marked "2:1 actuation", so definitely for Shimano kit.

Hi,
Thanks again. My budget wouldn't extend to more than £50 tops, so sorry if I ended up wasting your time. It might have been that I had a set of DA bar end shifters that only worked with DA and no other RD - the problem I had with the Zipp ones I had was that at first I wasn't sure which they were for - Shimano or SRAM - and I made the wrong choice (didn't register the 2:1/1:1 that would have steered me the right way). Not sure ATM that there's much 10s gear out there retaining decent value, but good luck if you decide to sell.. -

Well, at least you now know to rule out the Zipp shifters which you've had in the past, so obvs would have considered again. Unless of course someone might offer you a set for a made price, then perhaps you'd take him up. But whatever the case, good luck with your search.
