Ok thanks. That makes sense. So they basically sold out. But what is this reputation that Sumo mentions? I guess I've seen lots of city banker types in speedmasters etc but I didn't realise tag Heuer were like a level lower in that whole thing. Those aquaracers with the unpainted metal bezel are appealing to me because they seem a bit more low key and all their website spiel makes it sound like they're hard-wearing

Those aquaracers with the unpainted metal bezel

Tag were always like half the price (or less) of an Omega or Rolex and that's still about where they are. So it was the luxury watch you bought if you wanted to show off but you couldn't afford a Rolex. Kind of where Tudor and Longines are now, but Tag went for the younger market - they had no qualms about being bold/new/different. Kind of like the Hublot of mid-priced Swiss watches.
To be honest I think a lot of it is just people being sniffy about the brand. If you like it go for it. They’re well enough made but at over three grand their mechanical dive watches don’t compare super well to a Tudor Pelagos 39 or Black Bay 39 IMO.

When I was a kid I assumed they were on the same level as omega/Rolex, just because they were near each other in the shop window (provincial jeweler in Chichester) and looked big and technical.
That one you just posted looks like something from The Fifth Element. 'Funky' late 90s early 2000s design.

probably why I like them. If they were cheaper I'd go for one

That's a cool watch.
Basically everything that's been said about Tag Heuer is true.
They're also pretty vague as a brand.
Wanted to post the green formula one 90s thing and say that they probably never recovered from those things that look like a flicflac.
Then I saw the other thing on their page, whatever that is.

Gotta say I've got a real soft spot for those Tag Heuer SEL watches with the bulbous links like that. If I ever see one in the wild for cheaps I am grabbing it - pure 90s retro cool, nothing like that will ever be made again. It's the opposite of 2020s good taste and I am here for it.

As if this thread couldn't get more golf club :)
CONGRATS @MementoMori that's awesome! (and sorry about the crash - ouch, heal up soon - I hear looking after newborns is ideal time for physical recuperation).

Don't buy into this (or any other brand) spiel. Everyone makes their watches sound bullet proof. They aren't. That said, I must admit my ExpII has been worn pretty unapologetically for coming up to 4 years and it's daily rate has never varied from between 1.5-1 secs fast a day. That's nearly quartz levels of consistency / accuracy.
But as the others say - if you like it, get it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Only issue is if you're buying with a view to selling later, as that's when other peoples' perceptions of a brand (fair or unfair), are a factor.

They make Super Mario Kart watches. That pretty much sums them up. But then AP made a Black Panther watch and Rolex put emojis on a Day-Date, so, you know

Those are quite collectible I think!

Have you not had a speedmaster off me yet? Surely it’s about time.

When Tag launched the 6000 series it was only sold through selected stores and at the time was comparable in price to both Rolex and omega. Was a fabulous watch , I was new to the watch trade and really wanted one but was too expensive for me. I had to settle for an s/el.
Finally bought a 6000 chronometer preowned last year and I love it. And wear it regularly. -

We’ll soon find out! Thanks for all the wishes people, much appreciated!

I wore my Formula 1 every minute of every day for over a decade apart from when playing sports. Its had a hard life, the bezel got gauged when I fell off my bike once, the rubber surrounds got chewed by pet rats, I've replaced the battery myself a couple of times rather than going to a shop and it still runs flawlessly. I'm not sure how much I trust the waterproofing right now but it's survived a lot.

I also think the new “high end “ 3k aqua racer is just as well made as a black bay and cheaper than both that and a Pelagos.
And certainly more reliable , it does come down to brand snobbery. They do a GMT with a blue / white bezel and it’s a lovely watch. -

Re Tag/Heuer I thought these were pretty nice and the right size. But then I never tried one on.

Didn't know about mario cart, but they are all about motorsports, so makes sense.
And if AP or Rolex do funny stuff people are like oh ah fun Rolex lol.
With Tag it's more oh a (whatever model) Tag lol. -

My Certina DS2 that I wear every day is great except the height. It snags quite often. I like that it's 200m and feels pretty sturdy (I wear it for work/sport/swimming etc) but I wish it was a bit lower profile. I'd like to try on a pelagos 39 and an aquaracer just to see if they feel a bit closer to the wrist.
Mazel Tov!!!
