  • this! alu gobi can fuck off.

  • trek alr, cannondale caad 13 or whatever their top end alu is, spesh e5 hydroformed

NOT Trek Al, arkose, giant alu and many more

  • What grades are they? Most of those brands use in-house terminology iirc to differentiate the tiers, which make it very hard to compare properly across the market.

  • caad12 is good alu, caad13 not so much.
    mainly just the welds though.

  • No. Just no. I even eat karelai (bitter gourd) now, but alu gobi isn't happening.

  • Don't you have enough CX threads on here already? Muddy Poopy Pants thread is over there >>

  • Hey, mine counts! Just because I've left each component in the box. :P

  • It's no fun trolling you these days, it took four fucking days for you to respond!

  • Coincidentally the number of days I've been away doing this kind of thing to my bike

  • And you give me shit for "Muddy Poppy Pants". I've not ridden off road since the beginning of February. Cross season is over and it's far too wet to fuck about off road now, I'll wait until it dries out a bit thanks.

  • You're not meant to collect the gravels

  • And you give me shit for "Muddy Poppy Pants"

and will continue to do so. :D

  • Robin Hood innit.

Steal from the gravel rich and give to the gravel poor.

  • Slight progress. Should have this Crax built up in time for fixed to be cool again...

  • Gee this build is taking forever!!

  • I'm a busy boy (and destroying MTBs has somewhat taken over).

  • Anybody with experience on current gen Sonder Camino, preferably Ti? I am considering to replace my 2019 Sutra LTD with it as a do-it-all bike. For now most of the time it would be 700x42-45 with full fenders for kid trailer towing duties, later on maybe second wheelset with 27.5x2.2 for more gnarly rides.
Sutra has better tyre clearance, but its high standover (just about 0.8 inches less than my standover) is causing me trouble in more gnarly terrain, I believe dropper routing, longer reach and slacker front would also benefit me. I would also like to drop some weight of boat anchor Kona tubing, so I could use it just as well on road ultraendurance events with a tyre swap.
I have recently built a nice dynamo wheelset with UR705/DT350 and XM421, so I would move it on. I can buy Sonder with 2x11 mechanical GRX, Sutra is Rival 1 + GX Eagle mullet with Ratio kit, unfortunately I would have to at least replace the derailleur to move it to Sonder, as front cable exit version of ratio kit seems not to be compatible with internal routing.

  • Someone talk me out of selling my road bike and replacing it with something gravelly. I haven't been for a proper ride on it yet this year, just some light pootling and the occasional commute. It didn't get much more use last year. The thought of bumbling about on some bridleways is more appealing than trying to set KOMs in the lanes of Kent and Surrey.

  • Sell the road bike. Buy gravel. Ride the lanes as though you're on a magic carpet from here on.

    I haven't looked back...

  • Sell the road bike and buy a rim brake CX bike :)

  • The zig zag? Surely that can go gravel-curious for a taste? @giofox been doing it on cx tyres for time

  • Does the UK even have any roads that aren't basically gravel now anyway?

Everyone telling themselves they're running 28mm tyres because "aero" but it's really because the roads are too fucking shit to run 23s any more.

  • Road is gravel. Gravel is mud.

  • It’s 30mm that measure 32 on wide rims now, grandad.

  • I was going to write 32mm based on GP5000s but then thought better not go too far, people will get upset.

The last tyre I bought was 2.35" Mezcal and I'm still using up my road tyre stash from the last 10 years so have plenty of 23, 25, 28 to get through still.
