I think the machines changed, so they beep for specific types of metal. That said, you're 1 in 4 likely to get scanned or searched regardless these days.
I'm going to be 'that guy' and wear external knee armour over my motorbike jeans I think. Until now I've used ghost armour inside the Oxford/Bullitt jeans as it's protection but not bulky. After seeing the damage from a relatively slow speed hard-stop I have reassessed my road choices.
Probably get some idiot comments from other bikers, especially the ones that know me well enough to poke the bear, but after last weekend I have the fear.
Went on the CBR600 today first time in weeks, and it was difficult to go slow but I still had that thought in my head like "tarmac is hard".

These seem to be the real-deal, but since I'll have ghost armour under I might see what China produces for a fraction of the cost.

Why not just wear leathers? I just always wore proper leathers and airbag.

Kevlar jeans offer enough slide, and leathers in themself aren't adding any addition knee protection. It's less about the material covering the skin and more about the bulk of the protector over the joint.

Sure, but they do have very big protection inbuilt and held in just the right place and very comfy. Which is safe.

I miss wearing leathers and riding road bikes.

If I was doing longer or faster rides, I'd be up for it. I don't like the idea of squeezing into leather to pop to a couple shops and do a few errands.
For town-traffic speeds (sub-60mph, often sub-40mph) what I'm looking for it the additional hard armour bit that the thin ghost armour doesn't have.
I did enjoy the sensation of being on the CBR again today, but I would much prefer a relaxed ride than a bike that begs for knee-down everywhere.
Not that the DR350 is a relaxed ride, it's a different kind of hooligan.
Gonna try list the CBR again after it gets a new MOT this month.

Yes that's fair. I did have some textiles with big armour in them. But never felt as safe as it could move a bit. I just rode super defensive and steady.
I also would do a shops trip in trouser and trainers. Which is dumb.

I tailored my jeans to be fitted, but even so I took the ghost armour and it is sewn inside leather outer and textile inner, with elastic straps. So even though the jeans are tight the armour is directly attached to my knee and in-place.
Realistically short of wearing oversize trousers and bulking the armour underneath, the other option is external armour and that's where I'm at now.
On the green lanes it's bulky hard armour underneath the textile/mx kit. But then, that's hard armour from toe up to thigh.

By the way, case and point was:
First, pinning it off the traffic lights, cruising at legal speeds, no issue at all. Taking the aggressive line I could see clearly the road ahead and both sides at junctions.
Then, having chilled and taking it steady around a roundabout, someone nearly drives full-on into the side of me. That is even though my road position is clearly banking around the tightest point. Anticipating it I was already balancing and revbombing ready to step off the bike if she didn't stop. The second incredibly loud rev she actually looked at me and stopped.
So that's the risk. Going fast isn't the issue, it's the 30-4omph solid vehicle impacts that has me nervous. One kneecap is already wonky after being clipped by a car when cycling, I'd like to avoid it happening twice.

I've done a complete 180 on my MV Agusta opinion since this was last discussed and have been given great consideration to picking up a first gen Brutale (750 or 1078) later this year...
I still think of these bikes listed though the RSV4 is the one I fancy the most myself.
Have you been able to do any test rides? -

I had something similar happen the first proper ride I went on in the UK, except I was already nearly past the car when it pulled out into the roundabout so no time to rev bomb or anything (they would have probably hit my rear wheel side on). They seemed to suddenly realise and slammed the brakes and just missed me. I've never had anything like that happen on a push bike, does make you feel incredibly vulnerable.

It’s a daily occurrence to be honest. May just be a Swindon thing. Lots of sleepwalking.

Aren't the metal bits pretty permeant.

Common all over London and the rest of the country.

In this case pretty permanent is right. I doubt they'll remove those.

Before and after....
Fortunate. My metal work was a constant source of annoyance.
