I think the machines changed, so they beep for specific types of metal. That said, you're 1 in 4 likely to get scanned or searched regardless these days.
I'm going to be 'that guy' and wear external knee armour over my motorbike jeans I think. Until now I've used ghost armour inside the Oxford/Bullitt jeans as it's protection but not bulky. After seeing the damage from a relatively slow speed hard-stop I have reassessed my road choices.
Probably get some idiot comments from other bikers, especially the ones that know me well enough to poke the bear, but after last weekend I have the fear.
Went on the CBR600 today first time in weeks, and it was difficult to go slow but I still had that thought in my head like "tarmac is hard".

These seem to be the real-deal, but since I'll have ghost armour under I might see what China produces for a fraction of the cost.
I've got a rod, a plate and quite a lot of screws in one of mine and it's been no bother other than setting off the metal wand at Berlin Airport years ago. Rolled up my trouser leg sharpish as they were about to take me off for a more 'intensive' search....
They did take one of the screws out later as it was pinching a nerve and causing some discomfort.
