Failed at the final rep of barbell squats today, wasn't pretty. Good to know where that fatigue line is!

Super valuable info to know! So many people think they're training hard and close to fsilure with 5 or 6 reps left in the tank.
Did you have safeties? Tryna mentally categorise the 'ouch'.

Luckily I had a PT behind who sprung into an improvised deadlift but that made my left shoulder give way so I just crawled out way. Oh the shame.

I'm always paranoid of failing spectacularly on squats (well, as spectacularly as a couple of 10kg plates hitting the deck could go), especially with a dodgy knee - I've seriously considered just falling over backwards once or twice to get the bar as far away from me as possible 😂
Had a proper fight with my last rep on the bench press earlier in the week too - was like a shitty movie effect, fuzzy hearing / tunnel vision, and of course the obligatory Hulk Hogan shaky arms - luckily the safety bars sit at a perfect height so it gives loads of confidence to push it a bit more, 90kg for reps now looking achievable

As much as it's annoying, safeties are really worth it for squats. Pushing to true failure every now and again is really good for the mindset I think, but important that true failure doesn't lead to injury!

Here's my latest squat fail in solidarity.
Those green tow straps are the best £8 I've ever spent.

That was smooth as fuck, impressive bend in the over head bars when they took the weight.
Our gym has this other type of squat rack but because I'm stupid I had walked backwards beyond the safety bars...

I'm looking for a hyper extension bench / Roman chair as part of a lower back rehab / strengthening effort. But I'm having real trouble finding one - internet is full of £100 jobbies that look like they're made of tinfoil, or commercial jobbies that are £3-400+. Looking for that nice (maybe non-existent) middle ground of a sturdy, home use one. Anyone got advice or a line on one? Ta.

Best Friend of mine has been struggling with his fitness for years. Managed to get him into the gym this morning for the first time ever.
I’m hoping he’s going to love it

Our gym has been renovated and still doesn't have safety slide bars for the squat racks, might just ask for it.
Husband hurt his shoulder not sure of gym as he's waiting for physio appointment, car broke, shite cold so gym progress this year is negative.
The gym is also shit busy now and cramped in area we use as the have lanes on the lower area for people that want to do sled pulls. Blegh.
On the upside, the son now old enough to be allowed to join the gym. So maybe he'll come along or train by himself, be good for him. He likes weights and cycling.

Maxed out my squat as a treat. Hit 190kg. Pretty happy with that. When I did it I thought it was ugly as all hell but looking back on the video it wasn't too bad.
I think I could have hit 200kg but a) I was scared, didn't trust anyone to spot and even with safeties didn't feel confident in failing 200kg if it came to that and b) it would have been ugly / with a good morning which I am trying to drill out.

Just one. I don't think a second rep was there, but I'd done 170, 180, 190, so maybe without those working up it might have been.
I haven't really pushed squats since I started training strongman, just wanted a ballpark 1rm to base programming off. Also not been stoked on training lately and maxing out make brain satisfied.
I'm not gonna push squats proper, but I might try for 20o later this year at some point.

Strong, strong numbers, impressive stuff.
My squatting must be improving my mobility as I ripped the crotch out of my trousers in the garden this weekend, much to the hysterics of my son.

ripped clothes (especially shorts/trousers/underwear) definitely feel like an inevitabilty with lifting, even if you're not going full lou ferrigno hulk vibes.

• #5644
Wooh, good stuff!
Yeah no use injuring yourself over 10 kg :)

It's made me giggle too, to be fair.

Strong numbers there!

I've had an MRI done on my knee to see it's state after I blew my LCL a year and a half ago. At the time they advised I do it as when it happened everything was swollen so couldn't really see much.
The good news is that my LCL tear has healed. The bad news is that they have identified a tear in my knee miniscus. I'm now being referred to another specialist.
This is like a never ending drama....
Spoke to a physio who said if it's not locking and causes me no pain to continue to rehab it with progressive overload. So I will continue with this path... Just annoying as now I have something else to worry about.
So my numbers will continue to look and feel shit. I can now squat about what I can bench... Guess that's something.
I've also managed a 24kg KB cossack squat for 10. Couldn't a week ago.

Been unable to get lifting for the last 3/4 weeks due some niggles with my shoulder and hip still giving me grief. Anything I can do strength based in the meantime?

You can squat a walrus? That's more than something. It's a flipping walrus!
Keep on keeping on big man - onwards and upwards :)

That's brutal man. I hope things continue to improve. It's great that you're still lifting and doing stuff, all to easy to fuck it all off when and injury impacts things that much.
Jesus Christ. Fuck yeah!
