I bumped into a Brompton rider yesterday with an interesting mod on their bike.
They had replaced the fixings on all the clamps with button head security torq bolts and were using a mini ratchet to undo them. They said it only took a moment longer to fold and unfold. I thought it was an odd way to save a little weight, but no it’s so that when it’s folded they tighten the bolts up a little and if it’s stolen the thief can’t just unfold and ride away.
I’m not sure myself, but it did look clean. -

About to buy a Brompton on C2W. Will likely end up with many modifications but looks like there is no longer a choice in stem? I looked at them a few years back and think I decided a H type stem with a low rise (aftermarket) bar would do the job, but now I'm a little confused. Living in Manchester and don't think there is anywhere nearby with options to test ride.
I'm 6'2ish with inseam of 35" - Pretty sure I need telescoping post, but unsure if should go with mid or high rise bars. Can anyone share their thoughts/experience please?

which model are you getting, the A-line? think that only comes with mid bars - other models have more choice?
Anyway, depends what position you want on the bike - I'm 6'2" / pbh 92cm, I have a telescoping post & mid bars & flipped the pentaclip to give me a little more reach - my bars are roughly level with the seat & I find it comfy for what I use it for. If you want a more upright position (bars above the seat), maybe you want the high bars?

The options are a bit overwhelming :)
Looking at C-line explore 6 speed, or maybe a P-line 4 speed? Reviews are that the 4-speed system is a bit poop, but I'm thinking very long term mod to 20", so would have the benefit of lightweight while I'm using, then resale value of the ti bits if/when I get to that stage. Shorter term could change it to 3spd external or 6spd, and potentially end up happy with that as a runaround/train commuter.
Doing some measuring now.

Bought some black mudguards from SJS to replace my grey/silver ones. Front swapped out fine but rear seems to have a different method of the stays attaching and no wheel. Is it worth drilling holes in new mudguard to match old one in order to use fittings? Or bodge a way to make it work. Don't ever use the little wheel to roll it but does it provide stability when it's folded down?

The black one is meant to go under a rack. If you don't use the proper stays I'd expect it to be destroyed pretty quickly.
See if you can swap it for the correct one.

Ah yeah, I see now. Thanks. Annoyingly they don't seem to sell just the rear guard on its own for the non rack version, and it's £60 for the full guard and fitting.
So I suppose it's fit a rack or drill the black mudguard so the proper stays I have got would fit it.
Anyone selling a rear rack?

That's odd. Brilliant Bikes have it:

You could modify the black one to fit with a drill bit.
The rivet will just pop off if you drill it on the under side, seal the holes with some tape.
Then drill the other holes to fit the non rack setup.

Not sure if this is a solution, but I fitted this reinforcement to mine, then reattached the little wheel: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/frames/milian-plablo-mudguard-reinforcement-bar-for-folding-bike/
Edit: if you wanna kind've see how it looks on my bike: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/17255084/

Lovely bit of kit shall I add!

Yeah I like it and think it looks good. My old fenders cracked quite easily and often rubbed against the wheel. The reinforcement fitting to a new mudguard solved that. I also prefer the bolt vs riveted mini-wheel axle.

Silly question, but anyone hooked up a Thule Chariot trailer to their bike before?
-

I had a generic german trailer and regularly took my 2 kids back and forth to school in it. I used to remove the trailer and leave it at school then ride to work. Opposite on the way home. The kids loved it.

Used to tow one on a Brompton electric?

Just had my folding pedal completely fail. Brompton is less than a year old and I rarely even fold the pedal to be honest. This a common thing??

Nope. Ran mine for 6-7 years with no failures, before swapping to some pedals of my preference.

2 spd with trailer for me. I politely asked them to get out going up the hill in Greenwich Park. After shouting a few times they would oblige and i could push while they walked.
Otherwise, great.
Cannot over play how much they and I enjoyed using the trailer.

Thanks for the feedback. You think it's worth me contacting them as the time frame is so short?? Luckily wasn't pedalling very hard when this gave way or could have been way worse.

Less than a year? I'd be complaining and asking for a warranty replacement (Sale of Goods Act).
Mine got stolen today, quite a distinctive colour doubt it'll be seen again, but on the off chance anyone sees it please let me know.
