I'm installing 41mm Simworks Honjos onto a Genesis Datum. My only previous experience was with pre-drilled VOs which are much easier to install. It's my first bike with thru axles and I was pleased to see that I could make use of them to locate the wheel centre and take measurements. This took some of the guess work out - but there was still a lot of shimming, filing, sweating and swearing. I also managed to cut myself on the reinforcing plate which is sharp as a knife. Will post pics when finished.

Just big recommend for the the Giles Berthoud version of the "Sheldon Nut" at a whopping £2.99 from SJS Cycles compared to the £16 of the Problem Solvers Version!
Made installing a set of 10 year old bent chromoplastics (I think?!) on my fixed gear road bike.

What
bodgeselegant solutions do people have for fixing guard to seat tube when there is a gap? -
• #5706
Wine / champagne cork ? (This is assuming there is already a boss / mount on seat tube)

A hinged clamp? https://images.app.goo.gl/bznNiyu5Rrecy34u7

All done (for now). The 41mm Honjos have less wrap than I was expecting, but it's acceptable with a mudflap. The Datum frame clears the guards comfortably, with the tighest part being at the chainstay. I also appreciate the direct mount bridge. 45mm mudguards would not fit at the back without modification.

They look absolutely terrific.

Very, very tidy.
The black guards look really sharp on those silver wheels.

Thanks. The silver wheels were just what I had spare but I might keep them.

Is anyone familiar with the current SKS product lineup? Seems that what used to be standard Bluemels (with stays that need trimming at the top) are now called Bluemels Basics.
There is a newer range called Bluemels Style mudguards. These have a new stay that adjusts by sliding in a bracket near the wheel hub, similar to PDW or Raceblades , see pic below. They look a little more clunky to my eyes. But tempted to try as trimming stays is such a pain, though I guess the potentially may still need trimming at the bottom
Has anyone tried these ?
Side note, Longboards seem to have been dropped from the range..

Whats the forum recommended mudguard for a track frame (Dolan TC1) ? Im looking for a proper mudguard, no temporary clip on flimsy solutions.
I dont have any mounts anywhere, apart from the front brake. Happy to bodge to a degree. Any recs?

Genetic do some chain tensioners with fender threads and you can use something like axlerunners on the front for proper mudguard mounts front and rear, then any full guard of your choice.

Been directed here! Just bought a second hand Ribble 725s as my commuter / city cruiser. Currently it's fixie, but going to change it to single speed, add back brake and hopefully some mudguards. Can anyone recommend any mudguards to use please? Have 40x622 tyres, no mounts.

I ordered 700x55 PDW fenders this week. They arrived and started fitting to my front wheel. Managed it after some significant fettling but there's an aesthetically unpleasant gap at the rear of the tire. If I adjust the stays and bring the rear closer to the tire it causes rubbing elsewhere that I can't seem to resolve.
I looked again at the manual and it says 650x55 on it. My question is - if they've sent me the wrong ones, how likely is it that that's what causing my inability to fit them neatly?

Looks like something's off here by the crown, looks bent / crimped.
You can fix this by making the stays shorter too. The pdw ones you can slide them in and out, so if you need to, you can chop a bit off the end and then reinsert.

Sorry, made an edit after/while you posted. The bending was me with pliers, so the guard would fit closer to the crown.
I've already trimmed the stays - basically any adjustment using the tabs either direction at this point causes rubbing. If I thought these were the correct mudguards I'd just live with it. But I'm concerned the wrong model has caused this.

Eh!? The guards are for 650, you wanted 700, but the stays are too long not too short....
So cut a bit off the stays.

Did you manage to get a set fitted?

Right after I ordered the genetic chain tensioners, I went to check on my bike to see how im gonna solve the fixing at the seatstays, and then I realized that the solution at the axle has been staring me in the eyes all along
