  • What are people using to store/transport their hardware? I've had a soft hardware bag for years but it wasn't great to begin with and is falling apart now.
I think some sort of wheeled hardcase is probably the best bet for chucking in the back of a van for a couple of weeks. Are there any alternatives to the Hardcase offerings that are worth looking at?

  • What a win! That's a lovely looking kit, I'd like that for myself :)

  • I bought fancy enough Gewa Premium soft bags for mine... I don't tour and they don't have a hard life though.

  • I reckon I'm after a hard case. My days of spending months touring are behind me but I do still plan on doing a week or so here and there over the next few years. I also think that it might work better for it's primary function of stacking my drums neatly in the corner of the spare room for 99.9% of the year.
Is the Gewa stuff decent though? I'm after a soft cymbal case for taking to practice. I'm extremely fed up of lugging a heavy hard case on public transport!

  • The Gewa stuff is lovely, I'd say second only to Mono in my experience but that's solely due to me being fond of myself and Mono being a bit "cooler".

  • Any interest in a Ludwig Rocker Elite 5pc kit in Orange? It's been gigged but decent shape, with cymbals, stands, some bags.

Can add photos and list out specific cymbal brands (crash, ride, hats) but thinking £250 all in. Collection SE15

Very similar to the kit in this video. If interest can upload photos this weekend.

  • I've actually not heard of either before, will do some research. Thanks!

  • In fact, if anyone is looking to sell a soft cymbal carrying case, let me know! I think a backpack style probably makes the most sense for me.

  • Shameless plug. A band I play drums in released a new record yesterday. Metallic screamo stuff.

  • Selling a Ludwig Rocker Elite in orange, in case anyone's looking for a cheap kit:

  • Bit of an odd request. Does anyone have a set of Hot Rods or similar that I could borrow for an evening? Ideally in East/South East London. I'm doing something really soft at the moment and I'm wondering if they might suit the sound. I'd rather not spend £30 to find out they don't though! Happy to pay in beers/coffee and leave a deposit or something.

  • I need a new cymbal. Is anyone looking to get rid of either a trashy/splashy crash or a china?

    Start ‘em young 🔥🔥🔥
    two days ago on AGT..

  • I've spent the last 15+ years playing in heavy bands in various crusty, largely un-miced venues so I've bought snares based on "what's loud and cuts through the rest of the band if I tune it really tight".
I'm now playing in a much gentler (soft as fuck indie/emo stuff) band that requires some form of nuance and the massive steel snare I use for my heavier bands sounds really out of place. How do I figure out what sort of snare sound I want after so long being a caveman?

  • Play loads of em?

I always thoughts there should be a snare subscription that will send you one a month, brass, maple, birch etc. different depths and heads.
Let you play about and find a new sound.

  • I sometimes look up what people used on recordings I like, even just for a vague starting point, because obviously it can really vary depending on recording and production. I think for cleaner stuff the most important thing is tuning it properly.

  • Yeah that's a good shout to be fair. Any recommendations of places in London to try out a bunch? This will be my 4th band so not looking to spend loads of money so will go second hand but an opportunity to try a bunch of stuff and see what fits would be helpful I think.

  • This is another thing, I need to learn how to tune a snare properly. My current technique involves cranking everything to be really tight so that I get a nice crack out of my snare that cuts through the rest of the band.
It's really fun playing something that different that gets me out of my comfort zone!

  • I made that sound like I know how to tune drums – no fucking idea.
Last time I did a recording the engineer took my snare off and said to try his, it was weird to play but sounded so so much better recorded.

  • I need a new cymbal for some gigs and a couple of recording sessions at the beginning of 2025. I'm currently using a really trashed, very thin ride as a second crash and it sounds great, really splashy and almost like a china. It's completely falling apart now though and is super quiet.
Any recommendations for affordable splashy/trashy crashes or relatively subtle chinas to replace it?
(Can you tell I don't really know what I'm trying to describe?)

  • I bought cymbals from a dude in China and they were actually pretty great.
The company is called Aisen. We've used them all over an EP we're recording at the moment over some other pricier stuff we had to hand.
Extremely helpful, quick shipping and they seem to be pretty much made to order.
I'll ping you his email address.

  • Brilliant, that's really helpful, thanks!
Please post a link to the recordings when they're fit for public consumption!

  • I will, hopefully won't be long now either (I say that as if it won't be after Christmas at this rate).

  • sounds like you could be after a trash-crash (the holey ones)?
on the cheaper side, the Paiste PST ones don't sound half bad for less than £100:
