I've crashed twice in the same spot on Lesperit - I reckon I was just going too slow through rocky descent and hit too big of a rock to roll over and went A over T. I don't think any of my crashes can be blamed on tyres, basically, I just suck offroad.
I don't think I'd go down to 2.1 unless I was lining up for TD maybe, then I'd think about it. But if I'm running hardtail on that I'd probably want the extra volume of 2.4ish anyway.
I first built the Stanton with a 2.6" Barzo/Mezcal F/R combo but 2.6 was probably a bit big and I got rid when I added Cushcore XC inserts into the mix (on skinny's advice).
I Barzo 2.35/Mezcal 2.25'ed Lesperit - reasonable success with them for the first half with 0 punctures (my event ending washouts probably more due to bad lines on ruts and poor technique on a sand corner), the lack of slick tread on the fast sections is barely gnawing when all the toughest (loose/steep/chunky) parts are really using all of the barzo's traction possible
I think I also made a conscious choice from changing from 2.4" Tan walls to the eventual grey endurance casing setup, as I'd rather some rolling and climbing inefficiency than maltimed backcountry punctures
If I was touring more champagne gravel however I might do Mezcal 2.1" front and rear so I can swap F/R as the rear wears out
