  • I bought this on a whim on the classifieds and took a chance on the sizing.
The extended head and seat tubes might just work if I use with swept back bars. Stand over might be an issue with my voice going up a few octaves.
I emailed Kevin Sayles and he confirmed he built it around 93.
    Here are the seller’s pics;

  • The frame came without a headset but I had a 1” threaded campag record hiding so used that. I think I’ll be looking to build with a mish mash of campag 11 speed .
Quill stem, bar end shifters , swept back bars.
Before I buy anything nice i needed some wheels to test out stand over and clearances so just snagged a set locally for £20 that I pick up tomorrow. If things fit ok I’ll then get some nicer kit for it but if not I’ve only spent £20.

  • Nice looking frame!

  • I was wondering if anyone had picked up this frame. Excited to see what you make of it!

  • Well I picked up the knackered wheels (brake track is worn and grooved) but am only using them for mocking up.
Suprisingly the f and fork fit jack brown 33.3 tyres and stand over height is 👌
Here’s a mock up with what bits I have .
Weird, just looked at the picture and the garage door looks completely off level horizontally and vertically! Fine IRL

  • Absolutely pucker pleased to see that, sizing 'll just get better and better

  • I’m thinking:
    Soma Oxford bars - black
Simworks gettin hungry quill stem - black

  • Honestly, I don't think the sweped back bar will work with what is quite an aggressive geometry, well happy to be wrong thou

  • I’m a bit T rex in proportions , long legs and short reach, this has a 12cm stem and flat bars with a 57cc top tube.
I’d like it a bit more upright so I’m not stretching - the bike will basically be a town / canal bike .
    Bit like:

  • Go for it I think you’ll like it, because of the sweep forward before straight back they’ll be golden. I put similar bars on my large Wankster. i thought it would be awful, but I can ride it just fine at 183cm and so can Liz at 170cm. We both think it actually fits us, go figure.

  • Thanks your Randonneur is an inspiration. Lovely! I only really know campag so open to other suggestions for groupset combinations/ wheels etc 👍

  • Loving this build John. Glad it got picked up, such a great frame

  • Cheers man! I also have a Woodrup and it rides like a dream. Love the paint colours and the extended head and seat tubes on yours. stem choice is perfect too

  • Nice, classic and simple.
Just got these off eBay . They’ll need a fair bit of shimming but I have the shims so should work ok..

  • Awesome paint job, I love the face to black

  • Just ordered some Black soma Oxford bars and some campagnolo 11 speed bar end shifters.
Tape wise I’m thinking double black cotton.

  • Always like the look of cotton tape on a skinny tubes frame

  • Bike progress.
    Oxford soma bars
    Paul cross levers with shims
    Campag 11 bar end shifters

Amazingly comfortable but looks a bit cycle speedway at the moment!

  • Now I’m thinking 🤔 …
Shorter stem and drop bars such as nitto noodles or just invert the oxfords..

  • There are a few of track near me. I’ve not managed to see a race yet though.

  • I’m now going for a shorter stem and drop bars on this - nitto noodles.
I can use the bar end shifters (need a rd ) and have some chorus 10 speed levers I can use for the brakes (I’ll remove the paddles as one is faulty anyway)
The soma oxfords are being used on my Saracen mtb (see pic)
Mavic ceramic wheels should arrive Friday this week 👌

  • Bars like that are awesome on old mtbs!

  • Wheels arrived - ceramic to chorus with jack brown tyres - they only just clear so may have to get some 700x30c
Mocked up with drop bars and doesn’t feel too stretched so will order some noodles and a black stem .
