  • Who is the recommended stainless worktop manufacturer of choice. Need a small run of 900mm x 650mm x 40mm deep. I guess all are bonded onto some wood type material? Thanks

  • So the answer to the worktop materials question is essentially anything I like the look of!

  • Mpm engineering seems to do nice stuff on the 'gram. My kitchen went a different direction so no idea on actual quality or prices.

  • Worktop talk.
How about this stuff? Not the best website, it looks much better IRL
    https://www.diamikglass.co.uk/domestic-kitchen-projects/

  • Not convinced on scratch resistance of glass. And difficult to polish out too.
I'd rather get a good quality laminate tbh.

  • Time has come to buy Ikea Metod units, but it's difficult to decide on final kitchen layout. Would love critiques of current plan:

  • Looks good, although personally I'd have the washing machine and dishwasher to the left of the sink and maybe the bin to the right of the sink. This leaves a space under the island for cooking stuff/crockery etc.

  • Would it not make sense to put the washing machine in the top left near the sink and then have extra storage on the island for oven dishes etc?

  • How are you getting water to and from the island? You've got a sink so that's a good start

  • I assume the oven is low down. Having an oven at chest height is very nice. I'd put it next to the ASHP plant in a full height cupboard.

  • Do you mean plumbing for the washing machine? If so, there is a drain and water supply being run to the island as I type.

  • Oh cool, that would be the biggest hurdle I think. Seems fine I think, personally I'd put stuff in a different order like the washing machine next to the dishwasher, bins at the end, cutlery drawer next to the cupboards for plates etc

  • That would reduce worktop space to the right of the hob significantly, to under 400mm... which seems a shame to do when laying out from scratch in such a big space.

  • Just devil's advocate, if you like your way that's good.

  • Managed to squeeze the ASHP plant cupboard down to allow for full-height unit with chest-height oven next to it, and made all units 600mm-wide to look unified (does this even matter?).

Green-coloured units are full-height. 800mm-wide hob now straddles three 600mm base cabinets, with 500mm worktop space to the right.

    Thoughts?

  • Almost replied before you posted next version. All 60 is good, but of course depends on how much of it is drawers.
Layout is nice, will be a good kitchen.
Don't understand why dishwasher in the island?
I'd have washing machine left of sink, so you can have more cooking things near hob.

  • Also left so you can open dish washer to stack it and still walk around. Plus left of sink becomes dirty stacking place. Better flow. Washing Machine I'd also out to left of dishwasher for utility corner.

  • It's all twin-drawers, except the cabinet with the steel post going through it, and the ones with sink and appliances.

Washing machine is in the island as it's a freestanding machine (hate integrated washing machines), which needs extra depth and width, especially so that the machine door can be left ajar to prevent it getting stanky.

  • Definitely dishwasher to the left of sink.

  • Back wall came down today.

  • picking these up as doors for my soon to be pantry. Will sand back, glaze the panels with fluted glass and get some nice brass hardware.

  • Looks fantastic. Love how it’s weathering already. Do you have a loo up there? If so how have you hidden the soil pipe?!
