  • Much obliged. I had some boot waterproofer to hand as a stopover but I'll look at getting some of the good stuff

  • Quick Friday night spin.
Rear is screaming for a crate

  • Someone lost their Brompton in East Finchley doing the same.

  • Community call.
Gonna replace my flat bars with the m bars .
Just need to know what front, rear and gear cables do I need to purchase 🤔 please and tanks cbw

  • Unless you change the stem too, for Joseph Kuosac mid rise bars; ignore the sjs lingo saying h type cables, that’s wrong. It’s m type cables.

  • Completely forgot the stem length is different. Can I still get the Joseph bars if I don't want to replace the stem please?

  • That's what sbbohr meant. There's an omitted "[go] for Joseph Kuosac mid rise bars" as they're a bit lower than the standard M bars, so work better if you're not swapping the stem. See this info on SJS: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/handlebars/joseph-kuosac-handlebar-for-bromptons-mid-rise-254mm-clamp-black/

  • So - I have a 6-speed Brompton which I can get up hills on fine, but it’s sweaty work most of the year and not very conducive to commuting in work clothes. But I live at the top of a steepish hill. If I took the Brompton to and from the train I could reclaim about an hour of my life every day - plus I’d be cycling more - so I’m debating whether to trade in the 6-speed for an electric, or to get an electric on cycle scheme and just use the electric for commuting so I can get back up the hill in smart clothes without ruining them, and keep the regular 6-speed for fun personal stuff where I don’t want or need to lug a battery around. Is any of this sensible? Or just an elaborate excuse to get n+1?

  • Maybe a change of shirt/base layer/having a change of clothes at work might be a cheaper alternative. But this of course depends on how smart your clothes are...

If your cycle scheme also captures the 12 speed electric 'c' or 'p' line prices then I think you already know what you are going to do.

  • In your case I'd just go electric Brompton.

  • If I’m going to get changed/have a shower I might as well ride the whole way on my regular bike - which I used to, but I’m a bit out of shape and riding home in the dark with rush hour traffic isn’t all that enjoyable. So I’m trying to see if there’s a way to make the commute work as efficiently as possible, which means I can go via the gym in the time I’ve clawed back and try to get back into better shape… but the gym isn’t at the office, so I would likely have to ride a bit in regular clothes.

  • The mid rise create the same height as an m type as the s type stem is longer than the m type

  • I've had the electric for a few years which I use for travelling to and from work. It's been great and it's easy to go longer distances quickly or without breaking a sweat.

For me it's been worth every penny. I have a 3 speed as a non electric alternative for the times when I don't want the extra weight. The weight of frame+motor and battery is considerable though.

  • Please excuse the spam but I have a Brompton fork modded to v brakes for sale.

Cheap price as it’s been knocking around my spare room for a hot minute.

  • Thanks! think I will go to Brompton Junction and ask if they’ll let me carry one around the shop

  • If you take ID you can even take one for a spin: do a loop up to Westminster Bridge from the east side cycle lane and see what it feels like on a smaller incline.

  • thank you ill look at the Joseph Kuosac mid-rise bars

  • When I went they let me test ride one. I think they kept my bank card while I did that.

  • You must have a more trusting face; they insisted on ID+bankcard in my case.

  • I can't remember them having id but I might have left my driving licence I suppose.

  • We used to take a pre authorisation on a card and a photo ID for test riders.

    Not only Brompton, any bikes.
