  • Sorry to hear that, Sam. As you say, very brazen. Make sure you follow up the police report, e.g. by calling them and telling them about the address again, and making it clear that you think they can expect to find a house full of bikes there. I think there's a very high likelihood that this is the case, as people don't just do thefts like yours ad hoc and as a one-off. It'll obviously be best while you still get the tracker signal from there. It sounds to me like a police success story on a plate if they take it seriously.

Gleefully stating the obvious, the problem with sheds, hangars, and the like is always that they're secure until people work out a method to do them, and then they tend to do lots of them in a short time, like the recent spate of hangars being cut open (many have now been newly reinforced). Static facilities or doing things like locking up your bike at the same stand on the street every day if you don't have workplace parking enable thieves to scope the bike(s) out and prepare what they need to prepare. That doesn't mean that all Asgard sheds in your area are now at risk, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw more of them soon.

    Hope you get it back!

  • Really sorry to hear this. Which Asgard locker was it? I thought the only way you'd be able to get into one of them would be with power tools so you'd think the noise would disturb you.

  • Thanks, yes I was surprised we weren't disturbed as well. I don't want to say too much about what it looks like they did in a public forum, but I don't think they used power tools.

It was the Asgard 4 bike locker. This one:

If you're worried and want a bit more info on what it looks like they did to break in, feel free to DM me.

  • the flat upstairs from us got a bike nicked from their (common-or-garden) shed a while back - sad to say I got woken by a loud bang of their shed door being forced open at 6am, thought to myself "goddamnit why is my neighbour banging his shed door at 6am" & went back to sleep...

  • Thanks Oliver.

To give the police their due. They did call me a little earlier and say they were going to go to the address that the tracker is pinging and 'have a look around'. They didn't commit to actually breaking down doors or anything, but it is better than nothing.

  • It's always worth remembering that any locking mechanism can be overridden, it just takes a bit of research to find out how. People have in the past cloned keys, for example. Look at the whole Kryptonite Biro disaster; it illustrates how easily blatant vulnerability can be missed, and up from that extreme there are many other less obvious weaknesses.

Of course, there are also ways of breaking something quietly. If a thief can come prepared because they've been able to suss something out in advance, and what they've planned works, it can be a very quick in and out.

Also always worth repeating for anyone who might not yet know it is that most bike thefts occur from in and around the home, particularly gardens and sheds.

  • Good, let's hope they don't just alert them. Fingers crossed.

  • Mate had his titanium single speed stolen yesterday in Bruce Grove, hes tracked it to a block of lats but no one is answering doors etc, police involved but if anyone sees it would be amazing if you could let me know! its very specific looking so probably would be broken down for parts, so if you see them also, let me know!

  • Had my Roberts stolen out of my bike storage on hackney road E2, at some point in the last three days, absolutely gutted, not sure how it was teefed as you need to get through three locked doors to get in there, but following up with building owners, trying to get CCTV etc.

Would be grateful if folks could keep their eyes peeled :)

  • Sorry to hear about your bike @robertyoghurt, and your mates @luke572. Good luck getting them back.

In more positive news, we just got our cargo bike back.

It’s still not entirely clear what happened, but the police said that someone saw it ‘abandoned’ and called the police, and then a team other than the one who was dealing with our case picked it up and took it back to the station.

But they only linked it up to our case when I noticed that the tracker had moved and said it was now in the back of the police station.

So the tracker definitely helped with that, though I hope they’d have linked up the two cases at some point anyway. And it might have helped because maybe our nosing around where the tracker said it was might have caused the thief to dump the bike. Maybe.

Anyway, have got the bike back and it is pretty much as it was when it was stolen, so that’s a win.

And if anyone has one of the Asguard sheds with the two doors where the roof opens like this one: https://www.asgardsss.co.uk/bike-storage-x4 I would strongly strongly strongly recommend not relying on the shed and getting a ground anchor in there and locking your bikes to that.

  • That's great news!

  • Stolen from Barnes train station yesterday.
Nothing special but the old girl has sentimental value.
    Trek 7100fx
    Please keep eyes peeled!

  • Great news, Sam, hope the police take further action.

  • Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, communal bike storage is generally not secure (you know that now, and I don't mean to rub it in, but it's always worth repeating it so people are aware). Keys often proliferate, it may be badly-managed, people may be tailgated, etc., and especially at night, thieves may have a lot of time in a space where they can't be observed (and often not really heard).

Hope you find a lead or some other way of getting it back!

  • My mates Cannondale Caad 13 got stolen from his flat in Tooting, Targeted and broad day light :(

Exposure lights, Vel Wheels - DT swiss hubs, Ultegra Hydro, 56cm. If anyone sees it pop up on FB , gumtree, ebay etc please let me know, much appreciated.

  • My got stolen yesterday, quite a distinctive colour doubt it'll be seen again, but on the off chance anyone sees it please let me know.

  • Non-violently taken I hope? It's horrible reading some of the horror stories re: brompton thefts.

  • Thankfully not, just common burglary

  • A not ideal development in London. Bike thieves getting a little smarter and using trackers for a circular theft and resale scam:

  • no! what happened? :(

  • Anyone lost this?

(I don't recognise the headbadge, and cannot read any decals)

    [Edit]

Looks like a Fuji of some sort

  • Small black RC500 stolen this evening form Peckham Rye station... cut through the bike stand my girlfriend had locked to.

Given there are a million of them out there I'm sure we'll never see it again, so really just posting because I want to moan :(

Patch of 3m HiVis white tape to head tube, and reflective 3m black tape to down tube and chain stays

With SKS guards, deore XT PD-T8000 touring pedals, safety skewers on wheels, an eBay garmin outfront stem extension mount
