  • Smash the hills, fly down the descents and keep pressing quite hard on the flats.

  • This is my strategy, though more emphasis on pressing on the flats. I try not to go over 120% FTP on the hills. Might edge that up to 125 though. My recce on Saturday was only a minute slower than last years race pace.

  • My memory of NRHR was that you really need to push the hills, coast but fast on descents to recover and then ride flats hard but not at limit so you can smash the hills. You loose a lot of time by not smashing the hills, but you need the anaerobic capacity to do so. I'd ride each hill at a little under my limit for said duration.
Riding it your strategy works and is teh conservative way, but I think would be slower, if you have the anaerobic capacity to do mine.

Great event and really great course. Super hard! I ended up puncturing really near the finish when I did it. But I rode it several times before to get the feel of it.

Take care on the descents huh. Easy to over cook it or slip on a damp leaf.
