  • Both excellent.

  • Yes, lovely machines. Although, personally, I've never found Shimano brake levers to be all that comfortable. Tektro much better. Maybe it's me?

  • Lovely things - thanks for posting!

  • The Cyclofiend site is a treasure. Full of good stuff

  • True! Im not finished looking through it!

  • Spotted in Paris. Forgive the shoddy photo: I had a five year old on my back and was in a hurry

  • Is that brand called 'Stolen'? Seems like an awkward name, also from a marketing perspective.

  • think it's "Stolen garage" from Paris ; I think the reason from the name is the motto "Ride like it's stolen"

  • Not the same but yes there's a bmx brand called Stolen
    https://www.stolenbmx.com/

"Get shanked" is a bit much, even for me

  • I really don't like that, trying to hard to be retro imho

  • What are the cranks ? Custom drillium?

    Some incongruous parts (tune stem?)

  • Ingrid cranks. And yes, stem looks like tune.

  • Black spokes let's it down.
Might be nice with black tires?

  • Yes the tanwalls dont look good with this frame color imo. And yes always silver spokes:)

  • Looks more like a cobbled together build because all the nice matching parts are out of stock.

  • I have a Raleigh Royal frame that I’m wanting to do a fbnpna build with but can’t decide whether the modern 10speed Deore derailleur and cassette I have is going to look wrong on such a skinny steel frame.

I don’t think I’ll go with modern cranks but I l also can’t decide between 1x or 2x. I have some 6600 Ultegra cranks which might look ok but maybe something older (sq taper?) that can take smaller rings would be better? Something like 42/32? The cassette I have is an 11-42 I think.

I’m thinking I’ll add canti posts and increase the tyre clearance on the frame. I’ll build a fork, maybe a truss type, maybe do a front rack, integrated into the truss fork. Swept back bars, downtube shifters? Downtube for the front mech (if I’m having one) and a thumby/rapid fire for the rear? I’m thinking friction shifting with 10 speed is probably not gonna work very well?

I have some of those cheap Superstar road wheels from a wee while back but they’re all black and I’d really prefer some silver rims. I also want a dynamo on it so reckon I’ll be building wheels for it at some point.

  • Sounds like a good plan. On the 10 speed friction shifting, I have 11 speed friction with an MS barend and it works great. Dropping down from the big cog is weird though. You just touch the lever and it drops. The rest are muscle memory ;)

  • Interesting, is your barend shifter a dedicated 10speed one? I’m wondering if a shifter that’s designed for fewer speeds will have enough throws to cover the 10 speed range.

  • The one I have is 11 speed, but you can just trim the stop back on an 7/8 speed one to get more throw. The issue with that on a thumby is the lever ends up in a strange place when in the big ring. If that’s not enough you can build up the inside of the grove the cable sits in to get more pull. I think Russ over on PathLessPedaled has a few vids on YouTube showing what you need to do.
On my Sequoia I’m tempted to just get a stupidly small narrow wide to have as a bailout gear on the inside and just manually change between the two (probably 4 or 5 times a year)

  • Sorry yeah 11speed.

SJS have the right hand 10 speed microshift for not too much money so might just buy that. I can probably punt the 10 speed rapidfire that came with the upgrade kit I bought to recoup some £.

I like the downtube shifter for the front that @Browndonneur and @sloe have done.

  • this sounds excellent, especially the fork. excited to see what you come up with

  • Here’s what I have so far.

The rear tire is 45mm, plenty room at the seat stays (bridge might need shifting slightly) but obviously currently not a goer at the chainstays. Bit of big pipe can sort that though.

Fork from my Pashley (which I was trying to punt anyway) fits the long headtube and has plenty tyre clearance so think I might start with it and reinforce it with a truss type deal.
