  • Brisket is a delicious inexact art form. Looks banging. Good work.

  • Smoke ring looks decent to me! Sounds like a strong recovery, glad it was delicious!

  • Not quite finished but very much looking forward to these burnt ends from the leftover point section of our christmas brisket currently bubbling away on the grill.

Going simple with some buttered white bread, some franks red hot and a little coleslaw on the side.

  • Unexpected item in budget frozen food chain.
USDA St Louis cut ribs 1.3kg in Farmfoods £10.99
I saw some UK BBQ channels on YouTube mentioned these last year and thought it was special or something but I found myself in Erith and they had one of these left today so might be a regular item. Might have been emptied by the Superbowl.
Seems to be £16-20 anywhere else that has them

  • Wilson's BBQ did a video on these just two days ago. I'll be cooking them up this weekend too, lemme know how it goes!

  • Oh nice - a pain getting meaty ribs in the UK. Will have to try and find one near me.

  • Mine don't look as good as his! I won't get these cooked til next week 😭

  • I watched the 2009 Super Bowl in a casino which had a CNY party happening simultaneously. It hadn’t been readily apparent until one of the intermissions when there was a giant dragon dance with lots of drum banging and cymbal clashing, much to the amusement of those there for NO v IND. Also a great buffet.

  • How much for that slab?

  • USDA St Louis cut ribs 1.3kg in Farmfoods £10.99

  • Farmfoods

Great find, I already got some ribs from Morrisons to cook up for the Super Bowl otherwise I’d have been down to Walthamstow tomorrow morning.

  • That is cheap. Suspiciously cheap. So I'll assume that it's longpig.

  • Then Farmfoods ribs are meaty bois. Half a rack in the oven was still epic.

  • Hopefully this is the place to ask although a quick skim of the thread suggests I might not be enough of a #buyer to really get involved!

Want to upgrade the cooking experience down the allotment this year basically. I already have a nice, but fairly small bbq/brazier built by my dad but not really enough to cook a full meal for many on.

    Things I’d like to do:
-Have a hot plate for frying
-Be able to boil a pan
-Maybe an oven of some description
    -Smoke chillis to preserve them

Any thoughts? Obviously I don’t expect there’s really a single item that would achieve all of the above, but yeah. Basically got the bbq bit covered but want to be able to do other things as well.
We don’t eat meat so at least we don’t have the same challenges as many on this thread ;)
No electricity available and I’d rather avoid gas if possible.

Bonus points if it can all be handmade from junk etc.

  • Have a hot plate for frying

For this you can just get something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lodge-Pre-Seasoned-Rectangular-Reversible-Griddle/dp/B002CMLTXG/ref=mp_s_a_1_8

    to go on your barbeque.

  • Couldn't a big casserole do all of that? 'Dutch oven' and all. Stick on BBQ. Or hang over a fire

  • Or if you really want hand made from junk - 3 sticks and a plastic bag can do the pot bit

    https://www.reddit.com/r/blackmagicfuckery/comments/m3m3ga/how_is_that_plastic_bag_not_burning/

  • Yeah that’s probably the easiest option. We have a few friends who are chefs though and berated me last autumn for not having the facilities for them to get their groove on at harvest time so was looking for inspiration in the outdoor kitchen arena :) get some work surfaces on the go etc. Our bbq is relatively small so no way I’d be able to have a pan on the go at the same time as using it for grilling or frying.
In my mind there’s some sort of plans out there for a brick/ammo tin wood oven that could do pizza but with a hot plate on top etc.

Have seen a £30 smoker from Argos so perhaps that’ll do the job for preserving chillis etc.

Try searching for asado ? Something like this is potentially self build able if you're handy?

  • Feel like this probably ticks all my boxes, pop it on a couple of paving slabs, bit of chimney, job done.

  • Edit

Weber UK have other spare parts that aren't listed for sale in the spare parts section of their website.

Find the part number on the schematics on the website, contact them and they'll send a Klarna payment request if they have it.

  • Looks like the lack of ribs on my last visit was Superbowl related.
