sorry to hear that, I think it would be a bit of a schlep on a brompton, but I think a multi-modal journey would be good - I always hate the dry stale hospital air & even a short blast on a bike does a lot to flush out the lungs & the mental health (for me). Something like getting the train the main section Orpington to Hither Green/St Johns & then brompton everything else is exactly the kind of thing bromptons excel at.

Yeah this. If you're riding to and fro a station or a bus, it would be a perfectly suited choice.

Anyone has a Large Navy Borough bag for sale?

Blackheath station is at the bottom of a valley, so there’s going to be a hill to or from most locations. They’re not too long but at least the one to the south is fairly steep (but doable, especially on a 6 speed). Lewisham station is at the bottom of Belmont Hill which is long but not steep. There aren’t any particular cycling facilities like bike lanes at this end of the ride.
At Orpington, there’s a significant hill immediately west of the station but there is a segregated bike lane to give you some space to get up it, though annoyingly it can’t make up which side of the road it wants to be on. After that the main road route is not particularly hilly, nor is the back route via Crofton Avenue, which is where the cycle route runs out, and the A232 is narrow from there on. The main hospital entrance faces south, which doesn’t help coming from Orpington, though you can get in via Sainsbury’s car park.
Hope that helps!

Looking for some advice on baby seats. I think the standard advice on here has been the bobike. I’ve got an S bar though, and I think I remember reading that it has to be an M bar. Do any other brands fit the S? I prefer the riding position of the S, are there any riser bars that could use the M stem to match the S position without affecting the fold? Any other wisdom regarding the setup appreciated :) I’m excited.

Still looking into this Crankset alternative. Have dropped the idea of the Shimano 105/Ultegra for now. I do have some SRAM/GXP stuff I could potentially play with though. I also decided to look at what the new Brompton (FSA?) Carbon crankset uses. It uses the FSA Megaevo BB, which I guess could mean that a) it has slim enough cups (which looks to be the case) and b) I could use an FSA crankset of which I've marked plenty as potential options.

If You fit an M stem it will be lower but shorter so it makes the bike a bit shit really if you’re used to S type
-
• #14834
Can the s-type set up be used with a baby seat? is there any drawbacks?
-
• #14835
I think the angle of the S stem is too steep. Anyone know if there are risers that would take an M stem to an S position?

Shu at BFT has an example with the 'Pere', but you can get an insight as his family have an M and S type bar set up.

In relation to my comment above, I'm looking at this bloomin' expensive carbon crankset (just interested in the fixtures and dimensions) and it says it's compatible with ACPT lines. But then there is an asterisk on the description that says:
For A and C Line users looking to upgrade, you cannot use the included chain tensioner or axle assembly if you have a 3 or 6 speed setup.
I'm wondering why the axle though - chainline? So it would only work with the 2-speed varieties of A/C? Maybe @sbbohr has an answer.
The FSA MegaEvo BB included supports a 30mm axle.

Only the milian pere when kiddo is 2+, the s type just leans the kiddo seat forward and they slide ..

Give me the link to this?

Anybody else leaving the bike unlocked outside the bakery when they quickly buy a roll? Happened this morning.

"chain tensioner or axle assembly" - in this context do they mean the rear wheel axle rather than the crank axle? the chain tensioner in the photo looks like it hooks onto the rear axle & doesn't have any kind of antirotation / non-turn washer that you probably need to safely use a hub gear?
-
• #14843
Hmm that a possibility. On the link though, under contents it lists a "non drive side crank and axle assembly", which is why I think it's the 30mm spindle?
-
• #14844
I’d lean towards the whole thing being badly drafted nonsense.
You can’t use that chain tensioner on any extant A or C line because the standard triangle doesn’t have the right shape dropouts or mounting holes, regardless of the number of gears.
There’s no significant difference in chainline between any factory Brompton gear setup AFAIK.
-
• #14845
Yeah that's what I can't understand. I'm aware of the rear triangle differences, but come-on, the axle? How would the thing even be compatible with an A or C then?

Any product recommendations for re-waterproofing my bag cover? As I discovered in today's downpour, putting it on appears to have the same effect as not bothering.

Spray the bag with Scotchgard, forget the bag cover. It worked for mine , but does need re-doing from time to time.

This is stupidity
-
• #14849
Yeah it’s a 30mm axle. Terribly worded but means the tensioner will not work. Fine otherwise

Okay, thanks. Been scratching my head on that one.
Sorry to hear and hope all's okay. I regularly travel in that general direction (closer to Bromley/Bexley) but never have by bike - if I did my Brompton would be my last choice. There are some long steady climbs if coming from the direction of Blackheath. An electric Brompton would be good though.
