Mine broke and I never managed to get it working again.
Now trying newpipe via FDroid, as I've largely stopped watching YouTube due to the ads. Maybe that's a good thing though.
It's taking forever to download though.

Why?That's a really old version and won't work because Google keeps changing things to stop people watching videos and not ads. Make sure you get the newest newpipe version in fdroid, by following these instructions: https://newpipe.net/FAQ/tutorials/install-add-fdroid-repo/

Didn't that stop working? Have a vague memory they started trying to monetise it and google cracked down.
